Being a 7th gen owner, all I'll say is that it's a treat to drive, returns a decent fuel economy, and feels more planted. I'd suggest getting a car with a clean body, 1-2panels being painted isn't an issue if you're planning to bring it up to your taste.
As for the engine, I'd suggest the D17A (the jdm engine), don't go for the D17A1 or anything, those are the Singaporean domestic market engines and dont pack the punch. Make sure you swap out the wiring, dashboard wiring, ecu, as well as the transmission for optimal running.
Or you could get a decent 7th gen, but with this course you won't have much left for it's maintenance, i.e flushing the gear oil, engine works (if required), and so on.
