If the situation in Lahore is so useless then best is to completely forget owning a car and rely on careem/uber.

Its been more than a decade since I left Pakistan but I find it hard to believe good shops dont exist anymore.

btw you have to pay taxes in any case, I also used to charge it - its to keep books clean.

Yes. This situation of sending car to Europe for maintenance sounds fishy fishy. Here in Punjab such claims are expected from people who suddenly become rich, when their worthless piece of land gets acquired by DHA et al.

In Islamabad a certain real estate developer owns a gold plated Lamborghini. He takes along two armed guards with him whenever he goes for a ride. It's been heard that its denting can only be performed in Italy because of being gold plated. But who sends their Merc to Europe for maintenance? What is Shahnawaz good for?

Of course it is 18k gold foil. I didn't mention it in the literal sense.

By the way neither I belong to that class nor I am impressed by such guys, who are in the habit of showing off their wealth. I was just making a comment with reference to sending a car to Europe for maintenance.

Good shops do exist - its just that most people dont want to pay them what they ask, which in my experience is mostly justified.

The medical equipment industry, as an example, is in a similar boat. When given the choice between an 80 lac MRI machine package, or a 3 crore MRI, most customers who dont know any better prefer the cheaper option.

They'll almost always choose the 80 lac option. Without fail, they are forced to consult the 3 crore people to come and fix their 6 tonne paper weight MRI within a few months.

Btw these prices are for remanufactured, old units - most people can't afford brand new units with warranty from GE etc.

I usually laugh at such idiotic business owners too.

They wont care if their cheap equipment is stolen goods or even garbage spec as long as its cheap and sort of resembles the original item.

I know a family here in Punjab. They are seriously rich. All family runs Mercedes and they send it to Dubai or Germany or Japan for its maintenance. Yes it’s true.

maintenance as in ? engine oil change transmission fluid change wheel alignment. etc etc
FYI Mercedes has a built-in service interval reminder appearing at dash cluster.
normally it starts to flash at average 8000 kms (5000 miles).

sending a car to Dubai (nearest cheap air freght charge) for maintenance say C 200 costs US$ 3500 as airfreight. where as for PKRs. 550000 Shahnawaz can depute team for home service if there are 5 or more cars. That include maintenance with consumables.

Im mentioning maintenance, its parts and repairs were quite cheap. Lower than older toyota and quite rugged so its maintenance intervals were very long
