'91 LC80 ABS & Check Engine Light on

After getting my ABS light fixed by a local mechanic here in Lahore and the light reappearing a few days later I took my LC80 petrol to Toyota airport.

They said my ABS unit needs changing and quoted 350k for the new unit?! Is that a fair price and should I even be changing it considering braking is fine.

Another 250k to fix a gear oil leakage.

I took it on Saturday and was given a 'mota mota' Hisaab over the phone to which i asked for a detailed estimate which I should have later today and will gladly share.

While I'm sick of local mechanics here in Lahore, the Toyota prices seem high and really don't want to be disappointed if I can manage to maybe scrape up the substantial sum!

But “mota mota” hisaab is dealership lingo for “take your car and leave” As your rig is a senior citizen you need to hire a private workshop to repair it,

@syncview is the best iMO for this in lahore, hes an offroad nut, amazing mechanic (as jn real mechanic, not a parts swapper) and generally a nice person.

In usual workshop ways he charges for time, so just an diagnosis and estimate also costs money.

I know nearly 10 mechanics in Lahore who are good in fixing Jeeps.

Initially they seems very economical, kay bas yeh wala kaam kerva lain, baki sab theek hey. But once they open/dismantle the mechanical parts, then all their initial economical views takes the u-turn

Its like 10 years I am fixing my vehicles from Osama and yes he is one window operation for all types of auto works. And at his workshop you can leave your jeep with peace of mind. Either your jeep cost 1 million or 50 million, its totally safe there.

Last week one of my neighbours wanted to has his honda city checked from workshop since it started consuming more fuel. I referred him osama and ask him that he can leave his car to his workshop for couple of days and let him work on it. And his response was hilarious. He said na na na….. I never trust any mechanics/workshops and will NEVER EVER prefer to leave my car there in any case. I smiled and replied ok then you can find another mechanic who may know the Kala Jaddu and fix your car while snapping his fingers

These jeeps will never stop for bringing the mechanical/electrical surprises for you. i know it because i kept 80s for 4 years

mostly people are keeping diesel vehicles with 1HD & 1hz. But 1FZ is rare since its real fuel guzzler

since when you are having this jeep ? is she daily runner or just for occasions ?

a tiny tip. Plz never takes this vehicles to Toyota 3S for mechanical or electrical works. Because they are very good in draining the bank balances

she's my daily runner for almost 3 years now, and my second LC. she's a 1991, while my previous one was a 1997.

you are absolutely right about the fuel-guzzling, last couple of refills (on hi-octane exclusively) i have been getting 3.8 KMPL!

Sir hi-octane wali myth is busted by Zulfiqar already in other thread.

Summary of which is that We absolutely don’t need to add hi-octane in the regular fuel vehicle unless its recommended.

Regular fuel burns much better as compared to hi-octane.

try the shell owned station use SHELL Super (GREEN) petrol for next tank top up. - private owned Total & PSO stations are selling iranian mixed petrol from gawader to gilgit without any check.

sir I was under the impression that hi-octane would help clean the engine as I had heard some infrequent knocking. but noted!

unfortunately i am bound to only PSO due to corporate card. the 80-liter tank is beyond my means if paid through own pocket!

mostly those pumps selling mixed fuels which are close to the border where transportation is accessible.

here in Lahore, if someone will bring the iranian fuel, i believe it would cost him alot.

Generally here in Lahore the good fuels are considered as from PSO or Shell. But i heard that Shell is leaving PK very soon or have already left.

Actually majority of people including me too was believer of the same. However since zulfiqar has explained it well in other thread, since then my thoughts about hi-octane changed too.
