Hi there everyone, I'm a 20 yr old college-going student who is physically normal but theres something wrong inside, something really wrong...something I would like to share with u car freaks to see if u,too have chronic illness known as 'car fanatic'-ism
I'm not gonna go into details n bore half of u to death n make u close this topic n read a 'rolla' or 'reborn' forum instead.I'm going to type a few 'signs n symptoms' of this so called disease:
-
-chick watching-
as my house is on the main road of defence, I spend most of my time on
The terrace watching cars go by n I can literally stand there for hours looking for the one n only f430 in pakistan go by, or a porsche(NOT A CAYENNE!).I sometimes forget that its winter n stand in the cold waiting for a beauty go by.I've caught flu atleast a dozen times this way but nothing come Between me n these cars.not even lunch,or dinner(which is usually cold by the time I literally pry my eyes off the road n go to the dining room)
2.listening to those beautiful sounds
As I just mentioned, I get the pleasure of not only seeing beauties but also hearing 'em. When I'm in my bedroom, which is on the first storey giving me a quick access to chick heaven(aka a terrace), and I hear a rumble of a flat 6 porsche or a V8(usually a corvette) or sometimes a 'modded' mehran much to my disappointment and if I'm fast enough to go outside n see which beauty is roaring on the main boulevard, it makes my day.I just loveit, its honey to my ears. Those heavy bikes are quite annoying though, but hearing a 5.7L corvette revving past my house wakes me even from the deepest slumber
3.-magazine craze-
I've been reading car magz since I was 12, first it was 'CAR' n now its 'TOP GEAR'. I've got hundreds of em lying in my cupboard,or on my bathrooms window sill. I can sit on the toilet for ages (2hrs is a record) reading them. The late release of top gear magazine this month pissed me off so much tht I didn't visit anyone this eid, because I always take a car mag whenever we go visiting guests(and much to the embarrassment of my family, I open it up when I'm bored in their drawing room n get lost in the fantastic world of cars) .

Out on the road
My eyes are always on the lookout for a beauty. I get so excited when I do see one tht I literally stop breathing. Its sometimes embarrassing because while I'm gawking at a hot car, theres sometimes a female(whom obviously I never notice) n along with her is her man who is staring at me. They don't understand sigh. But he doesn't scare me, I never let the car out of my sight until it disappears in a cloud of smoke, which again is a huge 'turn-on' for me.
5.a passion for old cars
Here's a comparison:
-I love the '77 toyota mark 2 n hate all the other 'marks' toyota has introduced after tht, especially the mark x
-the '70's vw minibus takes my breath away, n I just can't stand those toyota estimas or previas
-a well maintained datsun 120y is better than a nissan skyline
-I just love the original mini cooper, hate the new one
-during a recent visit to thailand, I saw a volvo P1800 in a showroom on my way back from a long day trip. I couldn't sleep tht nyt. The next morning, the first thing I did was to go there n check it out. I was so excited bout it tht I forgot my camera in the hotel
-the old jeep wrangler is much much better than the grand cruisers a particular weird n showy class of people buy to show off their wealth.
-land rover defender is better than the range rover, even the jeep cherokee is better than the RR, the x5 is just horrible..and the cayenne is ughhh, and such cars keep on coming. Thankgod top gear does not give detailed articles on them every month.
-mercs were better in the old days, the new ones suck!especially the new s class, its hideous!
Anyway, its not like I hate new cars(except for a few)
but I would always prefer the oldies.
6.what I usually drive
Unfortunately, my parents r sensible, so sensible tht we have pakistani assembled cars(easily maintenable, gud resale value, no cheeni-meeni screen for which u need to use trail n error to operate,as in the mark-x,etc etc). So we've 2 vti's n a cultus. N for some odd reason I just love to drive the cultus. No power steering, no abs, no power windows. N I just love it, because I'm in 'direct contact with the road'.when I'm driving the vti, the electronics take over n I don't really 'feel the road'.though I would prefer the vti on long trips but for a sunday morning drive, the cultus is always my first choice. Its 8 years old n has done more than 1 lac kms n hasn't broken down EVEN ONCE!

Preferance of cars over almost everything.
When I'm sitting on the net, I'm always on pakwheels. I've even stopped checking my emails or facebook wall! If theres nothing new I go thru old pages or check out the very special VCCP page, which I just adore. Its either this or some car magazine website. Its kinda weird because even when I was a young adolescent of 'msn-chatting' age, I always used to be more interested in car forums than chatting with chicks (not the cars, but the real ones )
Even though the gprs connection I use is pretty expensive, pakwheels is always open on my mobile internet page n I'm constantly checking it out when the computers unavailable.
8.the highlight of my life
the most exciting moment of my life was when I found out tht 'shahzad dvd store' in the defence commercial area has the complete top gear series, from the first show till the one which is Currently being shown on bbc. These dvds keep me company when I'm not going to visit someone with the family, which I never am actually because I've got so much stuff to do, so many episodes of top gear to watch, so many car magz to read or just chick gazing on the terrace.
9.the history
I was always a car crazed child too.had thousands of matchbox dinkies n an electronic scalex-trick remote controlled racing track with ford fiesta racing cars. When we were in the uk, I used to turn blue whenever I saw 'cars on a truck' because of the excitement.my first car magazine was a car and driver magazine in july, 98 and I haven't stopped reading car magazines since then.

economics
For some odd reason, I judge my countrys economy by the cars our rich have. For example the recent phantoms, ferraris ,porsches n the lambo gallardo spider tht has just arrived have convinced me tht pakistans economy is getting better day by day. Its weird, but I just can't think of anything else.
I will be pretty bloody impressed if u have read all my cr*p n whining, which makes u pretty much a person like me.
Its like a uncontrollable drug, this car fanatic-ism. Even if I go into 'rehabilitation' that is not have anything to do with cars by socializing more or doing all the cliched stuff most guys of my age do, I can bet on it tht i'll always come back to cars again, and pretty soon. Call me an eccentric hermit whose world revolves around cars, I call it my life
But its getting worse day by day. I'm seriously thinking of buying a 80,000 '77 toyota mark 2 as a college car n restoring it with sunflower yellow or ferarri red paint, bbs rims n a torquey engine which is light enough to balance it.
Well if I don't get to buy it, I will most probably spend my first pay on some old classic and spend every rupee restoring it then. Maybe I shouldn't marry n have kids, i'll most probably starve them to death anyway. I don't think I would. No girl has interested me as yet, afterall there r so many other 'beauties' to look at
