A dilemma all Grande owners are facing

In order to compete with latest technology, Toyota decided to have a in-car entertainment system which was out of sync or ahead of its times, at least for Pakistan. No DVD/CD player/slot and hence forcing all owners to first convert all popular music into MPEG-2/4 format, load onto a USB and plug in the system. This, I find irritating and time consuming.

I buy a DVD from local shop. Its in VOB format. I find a convertor for mac:( for USD 30 which converts VOB into MPEG-2 or 4 and then invest 5 hours in a totally useless activity because Rs. 80,000 worth of equipment which came with my 2015 Corolla Grande does not offer a simple DVD slot.

In order to find some solution, I was offered DELLSON and PREMIER, Chinese made DVD/SD/USB enabled players for Rs. 13000 with no navigation thing and a poor quality screen resolution. I rejected them for quality.

Second option was installing a Single DIN DVD player beneath the passenger seat and third option was connecting a DVD ROM which could get pulse from the system and play the DVD. These all are for XLi version variants, not for top of the line.

Toyota does not offer any solution to this except for a smiley....

I have now embarked upon looking for some Japanese made player, offering all the attributes including DVD playing facility.

U can use 7" branded DVD

1st usb external dvd ll not work with this player cuz very old os minimum kitkat required to play external dvd

Ull get quality sound and display but sorry for gps

U can use gps by connecting screen mirroring of ur android or iPhone

Waqar bhai CD and DVD are dead long ago. Everything is available in mp3. Get rid of the clutter.

Absolutely right and it's a dilemma with no apparent solution. I've installed a dvd changer which is connected via av input of the navigation unit and works ok BUT ... its very inconvenient to switch it on each time you start the car... meaning it doesn't behave like an ordinary dvd player. Also you have to use a separate remote to control it ...
My particular dvd changer is Chinese and I tried looking for something Japanese and original. But it seems that dvd changers are not manufactured any more.

There is one good option though... theres a thing called a slim dvd player... which is Chinese but it can easily be installed in the glove box because it is half din ... it doesn't have a built in amp and gives pre out which can be connected to the navigation unit.

However as of now that half din dvd isn't available in pakistan. You can find it on Chinese websites.. I would have bought it but it's very expensive... something like 14 to 18 thousand which I think it isn't worth it at all.

I would have been far happier if indus just gave me my car Rs. 70000 cheaper with NO audio system at all. I would have installed pioneer and would have been much more satisfied in a far less price

Khurram: Thanks for endorsing and understanding my point of view. Where have you placed the DVD changer?...You are right about the Chinese player. Its on Ali Express. You can check it out. I have seen a Japanese version DVD player installed in some EU Corolla. It has a DVD slot. I think we need to meet to weep....

Lol absolutely. It's so frustrating that we just can't anymore buy a dvd or a cd off the shelf and play it in the car. I hate usb.
I once seriously considered replacing my navigation unit with a simple Chinese 9 inch original fitting dvd player .. which gli owners get installed happily... but I couldn't convince myself to let go of this touchscreen which has the best touch and resolution I've ever seen in any car.
There is also another solution... to get a portable dvd player and hook it up with the system.. but that also involves so many ifs and buts.
Anyway... I hope we can find some solution in the time to come. If I am able to do something I will share my experience with you . And if you find something please let me know too

I have installed that chinese 9 inch DVD of Dellson brand in my official staff car for Rs. 13500. It plays all versions of DVD but the screen resolution is mediocre. During day time, owing to sun glare, you cant make out Karishma from Siri Devi. You cannot use the SATNAV option as there is no mini SD card option. However for the driver its cineplex experience in his driving seat. Perhaps its meant for that population.

Yes I am working on the portable DVD player option as well but have some reservations about is placement. The ifs and buts you are talking about.

On facebook there is a page of corolla infotainment system.. all chinese... glorified though.

Actually, as I said before, its ahead of its time. They thought internet in Pakistan has graduated and will be on-the-go even in Dina and Domeli and all will have access to songs and videos via net. Little did they know about speed and connectivity.

I am looking for an original Japanese version. Will share details with you...if I strike something workable.

Okay so there might be light at the end of the tunnel. I have seen half cut Australian version of our car in chah sultan, which had a factory fitted dvd player... although it's screen size was just 6 inches. Still it can be a viable option because it is at least original and not cheap or Chinese.
The problem with our kabli dealer brothers is that they think that they are selling gold not junk. This particular dvd with its broken screen was quoted at something like 50 thousand, which I thought was RIDICULOUS.
I inquired him more about more cars coming in and he was positive that more Thai and Australian half cuts would arrive in some time. So let's hope they do and lets hope they become affordable too.

What's your take on the sound quality of your dellson dvd?

Since it was a crap XLi as bank thinks GLi means providing some sort of luxury to its staff, I had to install 2 rear Kenwood speakers which helped in improving the sound quality to a reasonable level. I am in Islamabad on weekends & in F-7/3. You can check it out any time you like on saturdays and sundays.

i saw an after market player for grande which has a dvd player built-in. worth looking at though i doubt sound quality would be any good
