HOWEVER The actual reality on ground is as under (We dropped Skardu / Minimarg portion and planned to stay night at Rama Meadows):
So here comes the day 3, early Morning Prayer wakeup call and then around 7:00am everyone was up. There were partially clouds outside but apparently bright sunny morning. We got fresh, took breakfast, arrangement of hot water by hotel manager for kid’s bath and afterwards we went to the nearby bike maintenance shop in Astore bazar, oil changing and other minute maintenance has been done. There were two bikes over there who had come from Skardu, so had good chitchat with them. Discussed about the Skardu trek, Rama trek etc. with them. And they were like positive that you can do that. One thing you have to be very observant while doing maintenance and oil changing of your bike as we noticed the boy was not filling the oil properly, it was getting down. You have to keep proper oil changer nozzle with you.
On the other side, we did not check out from hotel rather kept the room with us and put our unnecessary luggage over there. Our plan has been altered and we decided to stay one night in Rama Meadows slight_smile: and on that, my wife, who was very panic on the previous planned schedule, became ubilant. As the Madina Green Palace hotel was adjacent to Army Public school Astore, so we observed army soldiers at different spots. Anyways we started our journey and moved for Rama Meadows and Lake around 10:15am. At the start right from Astore bazar it was a cavernous ascend but doable.
The trek to Rama Meadows was absolutely exquisite, and glamour of nature was at its peak. Lush green landscape and mountains enforced us to halt time to time on our way to capture their beauty permanently in cameras. The initial trek was not that much smooth. On the way, my friend’s bike started missing and we have to stop in order to remove its air filter. On one side of the road, there was garden where there were cherry’s trees, and on the other side, there were local homes and they had harvested crops outside their homes. A lady who was in garden came to my wife and they started their chat, meanwhile we were busy in our work, she was generous lady, insisted us a lot to stay at her home for tea, even she offered to spend night there. Nevertheless, we had to follow our plans and we thanked her for her generosity and moved further. There were few points on the way, which really enforced us to stay and spend some time there. As we were approaching towards Rama, clouds also started accompanying us. Anyways we finally reached at Rama Meadows at 12:00pm. PTDC Motel huts are few meters before actual camping site of Rama Meadows.
Now the next thing was to find the best camping site. There were family tents and camps available in Rama Meadows costing 1000-1400 Rs. Washroom tents were setup there too, so no tension of that. There were also a point from where you can drink fresh water from pipes as well as to fill up your bottles. A small water stream was also passing adjacent to the camping site at some meters above the ground. And on the other part, there was big water stream coming from Rama lake I guess so. Anyways we had finalized our camping site beneath two adjacent trees nearby that fresh drinking water point and washroom tent. We setup our camps in some time. My wife and kid was busy in taking pictures as well as refreshing their selves from juices and lays (480Rs.) My kid was excited and was eagerly helping us to setup camps
. After offering prayers, we departed for Rama Lake around 1:35pm. The Rama Lake trek was not an easy one especially with wife and kid. At some points, one person has to cross some distance on feet. The other bike also creating few issues. And then imagine what ?
. There was a jeep crossing us and one of our member just moved into that jeep and he also took my kid too, which apparently looked good but later we really felt it bad, Why ?. The reason is coming shortly
The worst part was that, the clouds really started to show their rage and existence. The trek was not only dusty but bumpy too with ascends at points.
Nevertheless we reached Rama Lake Glacier point around 2:10pm. And the first thing which we heard was the crying voice of my kid. He was missing his parents desperately. He has big tears in his eyes
But after seeing us he got relaxed. And imagine, what happened next?. Yes it was the thundering of clouds, the visibility became low and it started cats and dogs. We had parked our bikes so we moved into one jeep in order to get ourselves saved from rain. We were chatting with driver. Things looked extremely scared and worrisome to me at that moment as the rain was really at its peak and people had started moving their cars down to a safe place as they got hunch, land-sliding might takes place. This made us more tensed. We have started discussing with the driver if you could take my wife, kid and one friend in your jeep on return. He has brought a family over here and he was actually waiting for them. They were stuck on Rama lake due to rain. On the other part the thoughts were coming to me that normally in hilly areas rain does not persist long, that is why looking anxiously towards sky to find any signs of better weather condition. It was really a terrible moment. We also started recitation of Kalam e Pak and after 35 minutes of non-stop thrashing rain, the weather became stable, the rain stopped.
Thanking to Allah Pak, we started moving towards Rama Lake at 3:00pm, as it really pinches that if you come so closer and you miss a wonderful milestone. Therefore, we rushed towards Lake and reached their at 3:15 pm. We rushed in taking pictures so that we could move back before something more worst happen. However, the weather became pleasant. There was a group, who brought stove with them. They had some plansJ , good one. Anyways we reached back to Rama glacier point at 3:40pm while taking pictures on way. We started our bikes and then departed for Rama Meadows, It was somehow difficult to ride bike. And on way down we saw those parked land cruisers which moved down from glacier point at the time of lashing rain. And their families were jogging down to them all over
. We finally reached Rama Meadows at 4:00 pm. After parking bikes near our camps, we went to tent hotel and order Karahi for food. The Karahi was not of good taste. Taste in a sense that it was not easy chewable. We identified it as a rotten one but the hotel person told that it is fresh and actually it is at this place, that’s why like so.
Anyways we were not satisfied with food, asked him to serve good tea now. He charged for Karachi 700Rs but served tea as compliment. Then it was pictures time, the weather was majestic, wonderful evening to and a must point to spend night in Rama Meadows. There was a person near a hotel tent, who had cherries in basket. And my kid was like flying in air with excitement. He loves cherries.
. We took from him for 200 Rs. The sun was almost set and we have sent one person to check from tent hotels about the covering plastic sheet, so that we could cover our camps with that as we had left our covering sheets in Astore hotel
. So upon that one of the night security guard asked us to setup our camp in the area where other families had setup their camp, as I have wife and kid so he enforced us to remove camp from our decided site and setup in the area where he will be performing his night duty. So we found it very wise suggestion and removed our camps and setup camps inside the boundary area where other families had also setup their camps. This place was really ideal one especially from safety point of view. And a good thing is, a person gave us a fresh cherries as gift, they were really scrumptious one.
It was cold at night. We setup camps and suddenly I noticed my wife is missing. And upon searching it came to our notice, that she was busy in chit chat with another lady who came here in car
. When my wife returned, she told me that family came from Gilgit. And they shared an incident while they were coming to Rama, that few bikers got accident on way to Rama. There were group of boys in car who were having fun in car, some of them were sitting on doors of car and from the opposite side there was another car, and the motorcyclists were behind that car. That car tried to escape itself from the car coming from opposite side in which there were groups of boys. They were driving the car sloppily. So those bikes got hit by the car, and one of them fell down from the road towards ditch. The riders got injuries. So that lady who told this all story to my wife really terrified and startled my wife. The lady further shocked upon noticing that my wife came here with a kid on bike. Anyways such incidents terrify you. The sky was so beautiful at night, the sparkling stars and the moon was also showing its presence and uniqueness . The evening and night spent in Rama was really splendid one.
We went inside the camp for sleep, bought biscuits, milk for kid half kg (total 160 Rs), and hanged the cherry shopper on bike. All the night we heard the shouting of boys making fun. At night, I observed strange movement outside the camp, might be of some animal. This was the end of day 3, I tried to explain things in details so that it could help others, but that really takes time
. Keep your fingers crossed as something strange happened on day 4 morning, which
will be elaborated in Day 4
