All manufacturers have some good and some average products. Meguiar's makes more good than bad products.

As with every product, do some research before deep diving into it

The Meguiar's Ultimate Wash & Wax and Gold Class Shampoos are very reasonably priced good quality shampoos.

You can opt for a glass coating, which is also basically a wax but is quite expensive.

Your options are ( in priority):
1. Collonite 845, lasts very long and gives a great shine.
2. Meguairs ULTIMATE wax (liquid shines and beads better, solid lasts longer)
3. Meguairs Gold class Carnauba wax (shines better than Ultimate, and is cheaper to, but doesn't last and bead that good.)
4. Formula 1 wax (shine is average and beading is amazint,but doesn't last that long. Hard wax should last 1.5 months and liquid 3-4 weeks)

No, coating is not even close to a wax by any stretch of imagination.

That same article defines a coating first, than it says that a coating has 3 types, INCLUDING WAX, SEALANT, AND COATING.
So far, you can say that wax and coating is very similar.

According to this definition, anything that is applied to the paint to shine and/or protect it is a type of wax.

i think, i may be wrong, but waxes are basically sealants. Everything applied to protect paint is a sealant. Whether its a wax, glass coat, ceramic coating etc. They all seal the paint by creating an additional layer to protect it.
So i think all waxes are sealants but not all sealants are waxes.

You are actually very close to it. We normally seal the paint by applying wax, sealant or a coating.

A wax is usually a natural carnauba based product, while sealants are usually synthetic and longer lasting, but offer less of depth.
