We built the bikes, sold the house, got married, quit a job, dropped off our dogs at their new foster home, and are ready to hit the road!

Erin resigned from her job with the State of Utah shortly before departure for the trip. Recently, Sam has been studying for different bar exams, one of which he takes on July 31, 2008. Before that, he worked for an intellectual property law firm in Salt Lake.

Here is a tour of our gear, organized by purpose into photos, with the items listed. The numbers listed after many items are the weights of the items in grams. Items that don't have numbers are either Erin's items (who didn't weigh her items) or were acquired after Sam weighed every item he is carrying.

Here is the closet. All of our clothes go in three vacuum bags (we bought ours from Eagle Creek) that you can squeeze and zip-lock to keep air out and the clothes compressed - these vacuum bags are invaluable for efficient packing. Not only do they shrink the volume of our clothes, the prevent dust and water from permeating everything.
