Posting in order to hear the opinions of veteran toyota users. What are the possible engine swaps in a AA63 celica, the one which came with the 4age in 85 for the japanese market and the last rwd version of the model. Nothings set in stone yet but the possible discussions in this thread may steer me to go ahead with it.
Now, is a 3sgte possible? It did only come with the FWD and 4WD future celicas and some research has led me to beleive that the T50 transmission the AA63 came with cannot handle a 3sgte,whereas a W series (w55,w58 which came in the USDM RA6x counterparts) can. If only someone with the knowledge can confirm this fact because I am yet to find a complete specifications guide/owner's manual of this model on the net.
Secondly, what modifications need to be made for such a swap, bell housing modification? Driveshaft modification? iol pan starter motor adjusments, but those are minor. Because these are needed to fit a 3sgte in a RA65 (mind you), but then thats a very different engine/transmission and driver's side to the AA63. All in all, is it possible? because I am finding very mixed results upon research as there are big differences in the usdm and jdm cars, and only americans were good enough to post swaps/reading substance online.
Finally, i dont want 1jz's and 2jz's and uz's because those huge blocks are just not made for this car. Maybe the 3sgte isnt either (before everybody starts killing me and calling me stupid for thinking something like this up). It still is a light inline 4 cylinder engine thus the preference.
Begin, thanks in advance
