Great informative post, I have a 2016 Toyota Corolla Altis Grande, my AC guy informed compressor is dead needs to be changed, i find that very odd why such a short life? Can anyone shed light on the issue.

Its probably just a jammed or clogged pwm solenoid which is exacerbated if the system runs low on refrigerant which causes the oil to migrate out of the compressor.

In extreme cases the compressor siezes up due to no oil at all left in it, all of the oil migrates to the evaporator on low gas charge.

If you are in Karachi, then I will suggest for trying to repair it.

Btw what Toyota people told me that due to excessive water pressure wash of engine bay inclusive of compressor at our service station as well as dirty clogged dusty Condenser added up reasons for such early failure.

These compressors dont fail except for places like Pk or very dark africa etc.

The rest of the world dont have an issue, its not “kwaltee” or “jenyann” - its the dumbasses servicing them.

Its a known fault in Corolla 1.8 compressors (2014 and up).

The compressor is sensor-based, compared to its predecessors which were clutch-based.

Over time, the sensor malfunctions, causing the compressor to trip and ultimately fail.

Best solution is to replace the compressor with clutch-based ones, either from previous gen Corolla or any other Toyota models which fit bolt to bolt without any alteration.

they don't usually need servicing right? changing cabin filters is pretty much all I've ever done

By servicing i meant AC repair shops, shops in Pk dont have weigh scales or vacuum pumps or even clean equipment.

A moisture loaded system can freeze the valve up, it jams. A low charge system can move the oil out of the compressor etc etc.

Dont let morons work on the ac unit, they will make sure its dead before it leaves their shop.

Puts a lot of frigging load. On the other hand duet compressor feels like peanut in a 1.8. I have driven junkyard compressor more then my oem compressor.

We have 1.6 altis 2017 being used in our family and it has clocked 189,000 kms still Running on original compressor.
While on other and my friend got grande 2019 his compressor died after 2 years of use later came to know that they got refrigerant top up from unreliable source resulting death of compressor as top up in these variable type compressor is not recommended from unreliable source at any cost.

After running my GLi Corolla 2017 It has reached a time to diagnose low cooling issue since the day one.
I had kept a corolla Xli 2005 for 10 years and its AC cooling was phenomenal.
I think its AC control sensor valve is a culprit behind most of problems which needs to be replaced with a new one.10th - 11th gen Corolla AC compressors are prone to issues even in its VVTI engine also which requires a high quality maintenance.
Any comments about Yaseen Car AC in johar Town Lahore or any recommendation to visit any other near by AC workshop is welcome.
I would be thankful for an urgent response because I have planned to visit tomorrow.
