Advice for buying a 4x4

Salam Alaikum Pakwheelers

I need your guidance in buying a trouble free 4x4 within 2.0 mil. I do not intend using it as a daily runner. I'd request the experienced members in suggesting me a make and model within my budget that I should target. What are the mechanical or other pitfalls in buying an old 4x4 that I should be extra careful about apart from the documents and changed bodies fraud.

In your budget you may try to find:

1. Toyota Prado 96-97 models with 1KZ-TE
   Pros. High resale value, proper 7 seater
   Cons. Old shape seems outdated

2. Toyota Surf 96-99 models with 1KZ-TE
   Pros. Shape is more aerodynamic as compared to Prado
   Cons. Comparatively lower resale value and it is a 5 seater

My suggestion would be to try finding anyone of the above but it should be maintained properly.

But keep it in mind that you need to replace its timing belt, bearing, all of its oils i.e. gear oil, tranfer box oil, differential oils, air, fuel filters, worn out suspension bushes etc. to name a few, so keep atleast 1-2 lacs for this work.
