Hi. I have a civic 2002 VTi Oriel Prosmatec, bought it brand new and still using it. The car has been terrible on fuel consumption. In 23 litres it does about 135-140km which is approx 6km/l. This car used to give me upto 11km/l in the past in city driving.
Sometime ago I had a sensor of the car replaced, when the engine would randomly stop while driving and then wouldnt restart till it would cool down or something. At that time I was told a sensor went bad which I am not sure was called TPS sensor, and was replaced with a kabli one.
Now the symptoms are that the car sometimes drives fine, and sometimes becomes very unresponsive and sluggish as if it cant breathe. Especially when it gets hot and has been driven long in traffic. The downshifting also becomes a little jerky and is not as smooth wheras the upshift becomes very smooth as if the car is running very heavy and the slight gear change jerks become very less noticeable.
Have shown it to several mechanics, all just service the throttle body, clean some stuff, check spark plugs and all, but to no avail. Had it also attached to a scanner and the guy found no errors as such.
I remember in the early days a HONDA service advisor once telling me there is some IMA setting that is done in this car by attaching a device behind the glove box. I have spent many thousands on giving the car to various people without any improvement.
Could there be something wrong with the kabli TPS sensor I got changed? Although there is no engine light. Also one more thing, sometimes when I start my car with the automatic gear in Neutral the cars rpm really goes down for some reason. Doesn't happen when its in P.
I've had air filer, fuel filter, spark plugs, oil replaced....
If someone can advise a suitable mechanic in clifton or defence area, Karachi I would really appreciate. Thanks.
