Gurus,
Need your advice on this one. My daily driver is a Pajero 88 model (3 door).
Current System (which was never meant to be more than a CD player and a couple of speakers):
1- Crap Kenwood 2010 model pre (entry level, no USB etc).
2- Soundstream XSC 6.5 components for the front. (Pretty good)
3- Pioneer 1675v2 3 way 6.5 inch speakers for the pillars. (I likes!)
4- Pioneer 303 something 12 inch subwoofer (the one that comes in a factory box by Pioneer) (I like, just looking for sound fill, not hard banging hair shaking bass)
5- Boss Korean 2 channel amp. (no idea, have had it for 10 years, don't have anything else to compare with)
6- Crappy Islamabad F10 Markaz wiring. (crap)
I've been pondering over changing either the amp or the head unit. Why? Because with just 2 channels on the amp and one preout on the pre, I cannot control either the sub or the speakers. I want to give my speakers limited to no bass, and I want to give the lower frequency mids and lows to the sub only. Should I go for a middle of the range 4 channel amp or should I go for a better pre with 2-3 preouts considering the below?
I don't like the way Pioneer is going with their new head units, and I don't have a gazillion ruppees to spend on a pre. I love the higher end Kenwoods (KIV-700) but cannot find them. If I get a new amp, I want it to be something branded (kenwood/jbl etc).
If you wanted some control over what you're sending to your speakers versus what you're sending to the sub (frequencies I mean), what you change if you could only change one item. The amp or the pre?
Please help.
Best.
Rao Hamid.
