Air intake resonator

AOA guys, today i took my car (carby margalla) for tuning to a 3s dealer, they told me that my car's air bottle (mechanics called it that, but i did a little research on my own and found that its called air intake resonator) was missing, it was a box like thing in the fender, the air intake pipes are connected to it, instead there was a hose there,
they had the part so we got it installed, they claimed that this would reduce intake noise, suppress vibrations and might improve fuel economy.

my question is that did margalla really come with those and does it really give any advantage

makes the intake sound less that's abt it.... santro's got like 3 or 4 of em in the intake system. if anything it reduces performance... as in power

That is only valid if you are blasting your high cam car down a track, in urban driving it also acts an expansion chamber for air as well as a "silencer" otherwise you would be hearing really loud induction roar. Nothing on your car was put on just for kicks.

is it harmful if a car is driven without it, we never noticed its absence, it was stolen from the car when the insurance guys were getting the bodywork done, lastly any other advantage except for noise reduction

Have been driving my infiniti without resnator, it doesnot make any noticable difference in power or economy or even in noise. But the air filter does get dirty quite often

could you explain the expansion chamber part please?

When the throttle blade closes shut the stream faces a dead stop, air having mass will pile up, if you dont allow any room to "pile up" your air stream will backwash out the filter and will be slow to respond when you open the throttle again.

in my case i used to notice a phuk phuk sound from the exhaust when the tuning guys used to press the accelerator till the end and release it, did not seem like a back fire, just standing next to the exhaust would make you notice it as it was not loud, it seemed like it was caused due to a sudden change in pressure,

i somehow feel that the missing part might have attributed to that
