Alarm system for Honda City Basic

Hi guys,

I just bought a new Honda City basic (model dec 2012). This is my first new car so I am totally new to all of this. What surprised me was that this model did not provide any alarm system nor a remote locking system. I know toyota does that (or perhaps used to) with corolla, like not providing power windows etc. Anyways, I asked the guys at the dealership if they could upgrade it by adding a remote alarm system (that is also connected to the central locking system, u know the 'tweek tweek' sound thingi :p) and they are like cant be done and we cant do it, its provided in the higher model aspire and blah blah.

Now I don't want mechanics or the guys selling alarm systems messing up with electronics of the system, I was wondering what my options are if I want to install this remote alarm system to it? Would love to hear what other city basic owners have installed and from where (lahore based).

Theres another thread on someone asking for keyless entry for city and apparently it seems a genuine one is not available and the local chinese is not recommended. So any one found anything yet on the subject?

Every one gets it installed. there is nothing to worry about. Nothing will happen to your cars wiring system. Just get it done from someone who has done it many times before so he knows the exact wires. City has built in auto central locking so no need to open the doors etc. The only thing to ensure is to get a good and reliable system....... Steel mate is recommended. I don't remember the exact model no, but, go for the system which has a touch screen rechargeable remote and dual (two way communication) with a powerful external antenna which works from a very long distance. It costs 8000 to 9000 i guess.

Steel mate is also a chinesse brand but its not like other brands which are manufactured on the demand of the importers. It is a proper company with a very good quality control setup. You can google for thier website. You can even tell the quality from thier ecu when you get it installed.

Cheers tausifs Will google on that. Been browsing the forums here on honda city and alot of people suggest changing the factory tires to something more soft. May I ask whats wrong with the factory ones and what sort of benefit would I achieve by changing them? And what would you recommend (size/brand)?

I WAS always against of changing tyres. Recently 4 months back, I got myself a new Corolla Gli. Didn't change its tyres until 1500 Kms until my collegue offered me to drive his Corolla Gli with Yokohama Advan Db tyres. I felt a sudden and huge difference in handling, grip and suspension (Went to lahore via GT Road). and the first thing I did after my return was to change tyres of my car.
To cut it short, The provided tyres (General) are not that bad either but I thing they are focused to give you much more life on Pakistani Roads and are therefore a bit hard. My personal experience after searching the market and the PW forums for the best tyres ended up with Yokohama Advan DB tyres. They are quite, soft and offer fabulous grip. I have literally stress tested both general and yoko tyres. Of course, everything comes with a price
I would now also recommend you to change the tyres. It will also reduce wear and tear to your suspension and body IF proper size / profile is chosen

a piece of advice... check with the honda company before you install a security system. i heard that they consider the warranty void if you install a security system. i am not sure though. but better check still

Dear Tausif: I own Honda City 2012 Prosmatec. I checked from different people selling security systems. They say they have to install a motor on driver's door to operate central locking with remote control. For that they will open the door and cut the board to make place for motor. Please confirm if this can be done without installing a motor?

Installing any security system will require some modifications in the wiring, which according to Honda will void your warranty.

Honda is not installing security system in 1.3 ivtec . i just bought 1.3 city, i called honda (3s) at kalma chowk and they informed me that no honda center will install security system in 1.3 ivetc (they are not doing/supporting it any more)
