I know it is not the best practice but due to unavailability and my laziness i had no option so i clean it as much with tap water until rusty water drain properly then used air blower to push all the water and pour the coolant. Will have plan to properly flush with right procedure in coming months.

Caltex has always been great too but as far as I remember guard pre mixed was cheaper than caltex concentrated.

if you want to look at it that way then the guard premix coolant should be considered at half volume. - How much was the guard coolant?

If I remember correctly I have bought the red 1L bottle from Metro at 250 when I changed coolants last. Was cheaper than that earlier as well, I remember buying at 150 as well. Since recent inflation it costs 300.

How much concentration is that coolant? And what type is it?

Sorry completely missed this, its pre mixed so I am assuming it'd be a 50/50, I simply just pour it in bleed the air and forget about it for a few years. I bought the red ones which were OAT, I think green ones also exist that are 50 Rs cheaper or so. In any case they work very decently.

to calculate the actual value of what you bought at 50% - you have to consider it at double price, because half of that volume is basic water.

meaning - for example if concentrate1 litre was sold at Rs 2000/- you will yield 2 litres of ready coolant with that. However if you paid Rs 1000/- for a litre of premix you basically paid Rs 1000/- for half a litre of coolant - water is almost free. - same cost in the end - in all cases its always a good idea to calculate how much coolant value you are purchasing - some coolants are sold at 40% mixture and people think its cheap, but its actually even more expensive than the concentrate.

Now unless you have proven record and performance of this premix coolant then it still doesnt add up for me at least, because with premix I wont be able to do a full flush and refill at 50% coolant unless I wasted a bit of premix, with concentrate I can always get 50% mix in one single shot.

Most sellers in Pakistan dont want you to buy concentrated coolant because it doesnt pay them as good a profit as the premix does. So always do your homework before buying.

Do you generally flush your radiator out with coolant? I generally just do it with water.

I understand that premix is 50-50. The coolant works perfectly fine, haven't had any issues and I have been using it for the past 4 years and counting.

The maths:

Havoline long life collant (conc.) is 1.1k a pop. I'd need 3 of those to produce 6 liters of coolant at a 50:50 ratio, so that adds upto 3.3k.

Guard Red Coolant (premixed) is around 400 a pop from metro cash and carry (khi) for a liter. I'd need 6 of those to get liters of coolant, that adds up to 2400.

I end up saving 600. The Civic I drive (8th gen) takes 5.5ish liters of coolant generally.

@Xulfiqar I generally do the maths before I end up buying anything.

Jbtw what are guards engine oil like, any one have an idea ? I have a super old KIA Pride that was just sitting and rotting so I decided to do a budget restoration for it. Pretty much done with most of its major problems so I am considering taking it over to metro for an oil change (P.S this oil change is probably being done to an oil that hasnt been chanhed in possibly years though the car hasnt been driven much at all.)

My personal experience with Guard engine oil as well as coolant is very bad.
However, their oil filters and air filters are of good quality.

AoA. I was about to buy 5 ltrs of guard premixed green coolant when i saw your post. can you give some details? i think there is 50% deionized water in it and rest is glycol and maybe some anti corrosion and anti bacterial agents. there is no rocket science in making coolant then why guard has bad quality?

Oil yes as per the profile of they company they would import cheap base oils and the additives. can never compete with the bigger companies. but why coolant? did u find rust in ur system after filling? or deposits etc?

Not found helpful against heat up plus yes could not found them good against rust protection too
