I have always thought about installing this system in Pakistan but keep following reasons in mind
1) Number plates are not standard here. So Your algorithm may get confused while differentiating between a non-standard Karachi plate with a Yellow color London wannabe ISB Plate.
2) We have not linked the Reg number of the car with ID of the owner. Rest of the world changes and gives a new number / Reg plate whenever you get it transferred hence previous owner data is washed / updated automatically.
3) The only number plate which I beleive you should be working on as a prototype is NWFP / KPK official plates that are bake painted and glow in the dark on a minor flash.
4) Many nawabs here and politicians Bhateejay bhanjay put up an awkward plate and none of the police officials stop them. e.g Chrome embossed letters saying "GUJJAR" without any digit can cause issues.
Anyway, these are some of things that come to my mind, there is infact a truck parked near G-15 New toll plaza building that already has the same type of system in it, I suggest you have a look at it. It is not performing any duties whatsoever but do ask people around under which authority it is there or go to IGP directly and tell him we are doing a project and he maybe able to help you out. I think some NGO gave it to them for free but our Police doesnt know how to operate it at all.
