Altis 1.6 Automatic transmission

I have 2019 Altis 1.6 Auto transmission. When I was buying it I deliberated whether to Civic or Grande but at end of the day i settled for 1.6.for various reason.Yaris hadn't been launched at that time. Recently while going through PW forums I was shocked to see that 1.6 Auto is only Four speed Auto while the new Toyota Yaris has 5 and 6 speed auto transmission. What does it mean? Yaris 1.5 pick, speed and Transmission superior to Altis 1.6?

Also the starting trouble in the morning common to 1.6 ,is present in my car also.

1.6 altis auto is 4 speed conventional auto trans (whch u found out now)
1.8 Altis auto has a CVT
YARIS auto has a CVT too.

Both 4spd auto and CVT are totally differnt.
CVT are known to have many gears/ratios and are popular for fuel efficiency as its able to keep low rpms at most of the city driving speeds. Mostly these CVTs have 7 close gears in easy words (i would say are just ratios cause there is not proper gears in it)

Yaris CVT can be said to be superior to the old conv 4spd auto because its new tech....and most companies are shifting to it....but as per exp of many 1.6 altis owners here i have heard good fuel avg for it too.

Don't regret ur decision of buying the wrong car...1.6 altis auto is known to be at the sweet spot of power to weight ratio of this car and is a popular choice too.

Thank you so much for all the information. When I floor the accelerator I do not get the response that is expected from a 1.6. There is pause between flooring the pedal and actual pick as if the car is thinking of what to do next. or all this be my waham after reading that 1.6 is a four speed auto with no CVT.

new Toyota Yaris has 5 and 6 speed auto transmission

New Yaris has 7 speed CVT same as the one in Grande

People advertising CVT as a 7 speed transmission need to get a life.

Cvt has unlimited gears. The simulated 7 speed transmission given you a feeling of gear shifts and nothing beyond that.

Coming back to the point of discussion. Yes the Corolla 1300 and 1600 in pakistan has a older transmission compared to the newer Yaris.

CVT as a 7 speed transmission

Just to make people understand... For example, if you drive CVT Yaris in manual mode, it won't go beyond 7th gear

All automatic transmissions have a very slight lag. That lag is there in CVT also when starting from a stop. However, starting problem has nothing to do with transmission. It should be investigated.

Well the ecu does thinks...it thinks what speed u r on when u floor the pedal and then according to that it changes to the required gear.....like flooring pedal when cruising at 60 would change the gear to 2nd from 4th....but if you push it almost half way, then u get the 3rd gear.

First of All CVT and Automatic Transmission are very different.

2ndly CVT is also considered to be slow as compared to normal auto-transmission

However if you want acceleration and budget is about price of Altis....then buy manual Altis with 6 speed transmission . however in 3 million plus budget there are lots of good option

CVT might be considered slow, might have a pickup lag, but on paper and reality a CVT can take on a AT any day.

I bought it for 2650,000 in March 19. Grande and Civic were touching 30 lac at that time, So Altis looked the best option. It still is .My only regret is that Yaris was not available at that time. I kinow Altis and Yaris are poles apart but would have been a good option all things being equal.

If your Car is in good condition its still more than 30+ lacs sale it a buy used Altis Grande and enjoy the ride abhi bhi waqat nahein guzra however after using bigger car its difficult to adjust in smaller

My 1.6 Altis is as fast as my brother's 8th gen civic prosmatec till 120kmph after which the civic starts to take the lead.

Remember: A Yaris can never be what a Corolla is. There is a reason it is cheaper.

I have a 2015 Altis 1.6. Starting in winter has never been a problem. It has 4 speed AT which effects fuel consumption which drops to 11.5 L/km when speed is 130 Km/h. However has good pickup and torque. I saw XLI and GLI struggling while ascending Bubusar Top or in Hunza going to Eagles's Nest where there is steep ascend. My car with 6 people and full luggage had no problem.
Overall it is a good car and has never given me problem in last 5 years and 160,000 KM. However with a 5 or 6 speed AT its fuel average would have been better.

I have sped up to 165 km/h on M4 (Multan Khanewal section) when there was very low traffic and no checking (before formal inauguration) . It was stable however I am not used to driving too fast. On Motorway my normal speed in between 110 to 140.

This weekend I went on a leisure trip to Swat on the newly built motorway. First of all it is not a motorway, rather a modified GT road. The road has already started deteriorating. The sole rest area is a joke. Coming to point , there is a detour due to construction and in order to rejoin the motorway you have to climb a steep and dangerous incline. My Car with four adults easily climbed it, while I saw many other cars struggling. One 2012 GLI had its front wheels spinning while it struggled to get a grip, Power wise 1.6 Altis is more than sufficient in this price range.

My company has recently replaced my 2015 Altis 1.6 with another brand car and I dearly miss my Altis. That was a very good car. Provided high torque. Luggage space and road clearance was also good. When I went to northern areas, I used packing and increased its ground clearance. I have visited Galiyat, Sawat, Naran, Hunza, Khunjarab Pass, Neelam Valley, Chitral etc. on this vehicle and it never gave me any problem.

I dearly miss her.
