Alto Japanese 2010 - Fuel Consumption

Dear All,

I bought Alto 2010 (Japanese) in May last year. The car was giving me an avg consumption of 17Km /L. However, now it has reduced to 13.5- 14 Km/L. The only thing that comes into my mind is that I have changed the tires and put in alloy rims in place of the original ones (Feb, this year). (dropped to 15 Km/L then and now the above mentioned)

Any ideas how to improve the mileage or any mechanic (Islamabad / Rawalpindi) recommended to get my car checked. and may I go back to my to factory rims (definitely old ones from market, any trusted place in Islamabad / Rawalpindi).

If it is the Alto You are talking about, then yes, There should be some problem.

(a) To improve efficiency, keep the RPM between 2000 - 3000.
(b) Check the Spark Plugs and Replace them is necessary.
(c) Check the Cam Belt. If it is lose, Replace it.
(d) If alloy rims are not same size in width or length, then they will cause problem to axle also.
(e) Check the engine lubricant level.
(f) Tappet adjustment or valve clearance can definitely help.
(g) Are you using A/C? It decreases efficiency and increases load. Are you maintaining it properly?

I personally think that alloy rims is not the issue. It is that the greedy mechanics usually swap or remove some parts is our absence. Try going to an authorized Suzuki Dealer for checkup only. Then decide where to fix car from

I get my car checked up after every 5,000 KMs from Azim Motors. They are good in maintaining local cars but no piece of advice on japanese ones. Another thing I forgot to mention was that earlier when I used fo get the tank full the range it shower was like 395 - 405 Kms but now kt has decreased to 325 -335 Kms, plz suggest a trusted and reputable mechanic in Twin cities (pref. Islamabad)

Before was winter , Now are summers , with A/C it does 12.5km/l max
