Did the 'Ambassador' car you guys mentioned, look anything like this?. Interesting!.The car in the pic is a 2005 Hindustan Motors Ambassador just completed it's 50 years production run in India!. Retro chic with a rear sofa seat fit for a king!. I hope they kill it but they won't do it. The public will not allow it.

What particular info you looking for?. This car being iconic in status appeals to everyone here and is what the London taxi is to the Brits, the Crown to the Japanese and so on. The car is powered by petrol and diesel Isuzu engines(options) and the diesel packs a punch. The Japanese are by far the most buyers of this car overseas, though it is available in the UK and is permanently displayed at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC.

I was actually shocked to know from Prado Ali in New Delhi these have a/c's and are fully loaded. basically I've only seen them as taxis in movies so m sure you can well imagine my mental image.

HM Ambassador Car is based on once common car in 1930s,40s called "Morris Oxford".isuzu,matador,jaya diesel engines came lately(from end 1970s).
But ,the earlier Ambassadors called "Landmaster" is a collection piece.So is cars till Mark-III(1978) .Ambassadors came in Mark-I,II,III ,IV during its golden years.My Relative Once Said ,During Closed Economy License Raj era ,People Goes to Calcutta(Kolkata) to Buy Amby.Such was the demand.Amby's Complete Body Shells were locally manufactured and I remember one such ad in Readers digest magazines of 1970s.every spares were very cheap.The Rear Seats are Very Comfortable.
