Android Mobile GPS in Northern Areas and in AJK

Hello bro. Never had been to northern areas. But my experience with android handset GPS is pretty good. Try to download google earth its free and quite accurate as per my use. Take care.

If u go to 3,4 days trekking where u could not find any place to recharge ur Android smartphone then obviously GPS will not work.

Although I did not use GPS on Android smartphones in trekking but I want to give some suggestions.

GPS consumes much power when it is used continuously. So u will have to carry 2,3 extra portable batteries for 3,4 days trekking in order to keep ur cell phone ON. These Battries are costly e.g Samsung S3's battery not less than 1800 Rs. I also found that accuracy of smartphone's GPS are not comparable to GPS devices like Garmin GPSs.

So its better u purchase any good and cheap GPS device. Its more reliable and long life and consumes ordinary dry cells.

I suggest u to take Garmin eTrex 10. Its price is 10k.

Completely agree with @huazifa
It is far better than mobile GPS. And there is one more downfall is if you loose your cellular signals assume your GPS is dead even if it has enough charge.

GPS doesn't work on cellular network. It receives data from satellites. It works in jungles, mountains and every where. Agar Indoor use krain to proble krta hai lakin outdoor main fit kaam krta hai.

I mean jese mn google maps ya google earth android pe use kar Chuka hn or us mn pani pathar, pahar sub aate hn. Kia eTrex 10 bhi wese show karta hay lakin uska display monochrome hay like old Nokia handsets Nokia 1100 ya 1112 etc

GPS generally navigation purposes k liay use hota hai.

● Aap ki current location btata hai (longitude/latitude coordinates)
● Current elivation btata hai.
● Aap apna destination point k coordinates GPS main feed kro to wo aap ko destination ki direction, distance btata hai.
● In simple words ye Guide ka kaam krta hai.

Garmin eTrex 10 main maps feed nahi hoty. Lakin advanced GPS models main Google earth ka Cache feed ho jata hai jo aap ko above mentioned info Google earth map pr dikhata hai. Like Magellan GPS models

Well, its itching me, assuming that I reach an area with no cellular service (almost all area during our trekking).............. You mean, mobile GPS is not going to work there?

This handheld Garmin looks a good solution, but I dont have budget at the moment to invest further already did a lot for camps etc and other stuff. So for me, the only option is to avail the available.

Use Andriod Application "Map navigator" By using Gps From any smart phone

If you need GPS with terrain functionality (Satellite Option). Simply use any android phone with google maps application and cache the locations you want (cache at the place where cellular data is available).

I have used Nokia E71 successfully for last 3 years on all my trekking tours. Installation is Google Earth satellite map version and i browse it online before going to build up cache for offline use. I mark my relevant places and then keep tracking my progress during tours and treks through satellite GPS.

One battery is enough for the day and i carry 2.

every one is saying GPS will not work......please use ur mind GPS didnt work on signal brothers ...it will work where u can see sky dats all even in new mobiles above then s3 u can use very well while u r inside building ..... as far as my experience ......gps works very well ....try to use sygic its best .......

Use this option. An application MGMaps (Mobile Google Maps). You can download maps from google earth and upload to your mobile and enjoy offline maps with your mobile GPS. I am using these maps in my nokia. Working great. (Though my nokia has not a strong GPS receiver, I hope it will work fine with stronger integrated GPS in some good latest mobiles.
