Another FJ40, I know, I know, its getting boring now but still

@hsumbal1 Sir ji I need your help. There is some electrical issue with my fj. The indicators take a lot of load and turned on. The generator is of 60 amp and is perfectly working.
When I turn on the hazzarods or individual indicator the dash and hand break notification light dims with the same interval as of the indicators. . I think the earth is faulty. The stupid electrician failed to diagnose the issue..

We will talk about it when we meet...Electricals is the weakest department in Pakistan specially when it comes to restorations....

For some reason I have not come across an electrition who can do the job by the book...I can understand your frustration

Also sir I am also planning to get one FJ40 with soft top, how would you recommend the HZ engine performance over KZ in terms of Mileage, speed and torque?

Also how is the AC performance in your ride with the soft top specially on long drives?

Coming to the engine, honestly in this time and age 1KZ will suit you as a good HZ will cost around 400K to buy.

If you compare the numbers(Horse power and Torque) of KZ and HZ you will find no difference, just the fact that HZ achieves those numbers easily than a KZ. KZ, I have heard is heavier on fuel compared to HZ but the price difference does not justify the extra one and a half kilometer per liter that an HZ will deliver.

Recently I was in Pindi and in conversation with Farooq Awan(the guy who built my rig), who was in process of rebuilding an FJ40 with 1KZ told me that the combination of 1KZ with H55F gear box and 9.37 diffs is amazing. I will recommend that if you do restore a 40 go for this combo. Or may be a B series engine....

A good 1HZ, the kind of engine I have in my 40 is insanely expensive these days.

1KZ is a good engine if used properly and little bit tweaked .

Believe it or not

I always get around 8-9km /litre on my surf

Though I have given it some love .

Imran in the hands of a Toyota certified engineer like you any engine will behave itself. I agree, 1KZ should deliver decent millage.

I know a guy who had 1KZ mated to a manual box in a CJ7, claimed 12 km/L highway...

In my opinion(arguable) 1KZ is one of the best diesel motors Toyota built.

Dear experts. Was wondering if anyone could help me out. I want to know what the diff ratio is for my FJ40. It's a 1982 model, came with a 2F, 4 speed transmission. Everywhere I've searched it says the ratio is either 3.7 or 4.1. How do I know which one is the ratio for mine? Thank you

If you open up the differential cover it would have an engraving. It would either be 10 37 and some other numbers which would mean 3.7 or 9 37 and Xyz digits which would mean 4.11
