Wa Alaikum Salam and thanks for appreciation, amazingly i am also member of pakwheels since 2007 but rarely visit here or leave my feedback. I did not understand the need to share my views with people who think alike and can understand the passion, till i started this project.

It was scratch to finished product project, perhaps worse than that and man when ever i discussed my plans with denters, painters and mechanics and even ordinary people they looked at me as if i were mad ( they would not utter a word from mouth but they way they looked at me that i could understand very well) Biggest contrast of all this is that i am Deputy Director in a public sector uni. I have never disclosed my identification here lest any student may read all this and think "this is our deputy director" and other factor is that i never thought it would be of any use (felt like boasting about my self).

My cousin (owner and financer of khyber) introduces me proudly to all this is my cousin he is DD in university and he is undertaking the project result is sarcastic looks. If i am dressed properly (which is very rare coz when you go to a workshop you wear the worst things you have) they think he wont be able to do that. And if i am in work dress they look at me as if saying this is DD (no way)

So this website and you people are like Red Bull to me (its not that you people boost my energy, its that i am always afraid of being hit by you "being technically aware" you can always hit the proper areas.

Its a win win situation. Your suggestions add to the benefit of this rust and putty queen and your comments really energize me.

After an interval yesterday went to Painter and factory where i had preserved the parts of the car and pics will show you parts resting in the open with junk.

I have already lost some of things in factory so decided to take care of these, had the engine picked up from denter and with all these parts took things to mechanic to examine as to what could be used and what needed to be changed.

Paid a visit to painter also (on the way) and things were shaping up there, pics follow

at the mechanics most of the stuff turned out to be useless as expected, but i was insisting complete overhaul of engine while ustaad was of the view that we should keep engine the way it was as it may be good, upon my insisting he opened the plugs and showed me these were in good shape and told that the engine was in good running condition

however engine seals needed inspection as engine was all covered with oil

i had given it a thought to open its engine and clean it and service its carb also but when i considered the circumstances and the the things that i have opened and placed at different places, i quit that idea. Currently it parts are stored at 4 different places i. e Denter, Painter, Factory, My Home and Mechanic.

So i thought it better to leave it to mechanic since these are organized people they can take care of minor details better than us. And by the way i really appreciate my mechanic he is a miracle worker and i do trust him with all these things. He has proven himself handy and honest on more than half dozen occasions.

Now mechanic will take care of engine, suspension, and carb, he will keep these things ready and we will just have to take them to denter for installation.

Just a humble suggestion. If he's not willing to overhaul the engine, then at least do a piston compression test, this will confirm if the engine needs overhauling or not. I'd suggest you do it from another place so as to remove the factor that the mechanic isn't doing it due to sheer laziness (most of our mechanics hesitate to do such, only most experienced and specialists will tackle this task head on).

Check all seals for leakage, head gasket, manifold and everything in between. You don't want to regret it later if some sort of leakage develops later on and eats up all the hard work you put on restoring it. If your mechanic isn't willing to do it, then force him to do all the checks and tests in front of you in order to be confirmed 100%.

EDIT: Years of accumulated dust due to negligence needs to be taken care of as well. Wash the engine parts properly with petrol to remove all residue.

I really appreciate your concerns about my headache, like i have mentioned had a detailed discussion with mechanic he is a decent man and his honesty and professionalism is beyond any doubt to me. Since i was insisting he told me to hold on according to him engine opening and overhauling was profitable for him but he wasnt going for that outright plugs and point told the story a little. We had a deal that he would clean up engine (the residues that you mentioned) change the leaking seals clean the carb and tune it up. We are going to gamble on its well being. One thing is for sure its in running condition. After fitting it in car its performance will be checked. And if it needs some bucks we will think about swapping its engine (it is more suitable since we have put about 70 k in it. Leaving its engine it is going to cost us a good 100 ks before it is able to run on its wheels) so currently its engine is going as it is.

Engine overhaul or swap wont be a big deal after it is able to move, We can even take it to peshawar, before it wasnt in condition to even go to a denter.

I think an engine swap is a better idea as well. That engine you showed earlier looked real good. If money's not an issue, I'd say it'd fit in nicely within the car, considering the old one goes for a decent amount. Compression test should help you determine the condition of the piston/ piston rings whether the rings have worn out or not. Tell me, did the car give you white/ blue smoke at cold start ?

gentleman thanks for going through and appreciating, i have planned to remove the rust as much as possible. There are some factors hindering my progress. first i am going a job in gujrat and live in gijranwala (means daily coming and going back) very little time and energy is spared for this project in week days. Living in gujranwala parts availability is very hard.

And to top it all i have had carpel tunnel syndrome (constant pain in hand associated with excessive usage of computer and mouse) type of pain for the last couple of years. Last year its was so severe that i couldnt even turn the ignition of car. Currently it is under control but when i try to do things using spanners and wrenching (pain starts all over) i am not the kind of person to leave things to mechanics i opened all that dashboard support, seats railings, steering column and many more things myself, I had asked denter to do this but he assured me with each thing that work will be upto the mark without opening these things but i knew it wont. In the end gave up and did it myself.

Now all there things are painted in black but i have not been able to take pic of these. Will upload these soon Inshallah.

Specially in selection of colour i want it to be done in white. can you guys suggest the shades of white i personally like off white or pearl white but not sure about the availability of pearl white

The abovementioned problems is called (Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs)
There is procedure to follow when working at computer to avoid having such serious problems.

Point 1. When working on the computer for long hours, pay attention to tension, discomfort or pain you feel and take immediate action to relieve it.
Point 2. Make sure you stand up and walk away from your computer on a regular basis. Just walk around for a few minutes, stretch, and relax. This should be done at least every hour. I recommend that you use a timer and get away from your computer every 20 to 30 minutes.

If You Have Pain

If you experience recurrent, persistent or worsening discomfort, especially if the discomfort includes pain, numbness or weakness, promptly consult a qualified physician.
The earlier a problem is correctly diagnosed and treated, the easier it is to take care of and the less chance there is that it will progress to a disabling condition.

This car had been parked at a showroom for a year a half before i started to take up this project. Do not remember its starting or driving. Neither does its owner has any idea. He being a business man has invested heavily on it and i do not want to go for a swap right now. Money for business people is very important you know. Han after six months he can easily give it more money (if needed) meantime we can run it within city for errands (currently his imported Ractis is being used for this purpose) it will serve two purposes its engine will be checked and Ractis will also be saved from city traffic.

You have mentioned compression test, what is the equipment involved please guide so that i may go for it.

I have had this issue for more than a couple of years now, but it is under control right now.

Last year i had my hand x rayed had my complete blood tests done and each and everything that anyone would suggest. I even had check up from an orthopedic surgeon, he told me that nothing was wrong with hand, it was lack of exercise and wrong posture. he did not give me any medicine and told me to keep and eye on my self as to how i am misusing my hand. one day i had gone to a computer accessories shop and i saw a mouse pad with a cushion, i bought it and believe me in a couple of days stress and pain was gone (last year it was so severe that i could not even turn the ignition of car with my right hand. After that mouse pad changing it is in a very good condition. Until i start messing with tools ( opened this khaybers' front and rear suspension assembly myself and grinded old paint and putty from its body and underbody) couple of weeks ago and this time there was not pain it was stress which is natural for someone like me who does not do any hard work in routine.

I am very thankful of both of you people for giving your value able feedback. Allah Almighty bless you all.

After so many days went to painter he has made things ready under body is also covered with base coat he asked me to install tyres so that car may be moved. I didnt tell him the condition of suspension system to install tyres. Lets see pics

And guys there are some issues i want guidance about.

1. As above pics of car body show that the car is ready for paint i guess so far base coat is applied and my understanding is that two coats of final paint will go on this, when i asked painter about base coat he some how evaded the question. My concern is that so far coats done on fenders and doors seem pretty clean but on body it feels heavy. What can be done or ensured so that it does not get a thick coating ruining the final finish. I have tried to shake off the feeling but couldnt.

2. Wiring of car was short and burnt at couple of places. Thought i have kept it in sacks, but i am confused as to what to do about it Shall i go for complete wiring with new wires (this way only electrician doing it will know what and where he has done things. Or its complete wiring is available (used) from bilal gunj?

What do you people advise?

I think using old wires as a template is a good idea. You can fabricate a brand new copy yourself that way. It will be much better than what an electrician can do. If I was in such.a situation I would do it just to gain the skill.

You have apparently have jolted my mind out of a dream, that is very much possible but the origional plastic joints and clips are in such a bad condition that these can not be worked with. we will need to make things purely in a desi manner clip joints instead of origional plastic ones.

Thats why i was thinking about getting the basic and core things from bilal gunj, e. g. fuse box and plastic joints. Gonna be a big big hassle. Considering the Ramzan and all that effort seems a killer.

No one has commented on the body paint issue as yet.............
