2. Education: Educate the car users that safety belts are your friends.

3. Enforcement/enactment: Fines for those not using seat belts.

just got back from a wedding in gujrat..barat was a fleet of white and black xlis,around 15..so it is a luxury for the village people alright so why should they give abs and air bags to people who wont even know what the hell they stand for... people dont pay for abs and bla bla in village,they pay for a toyota monogram on trunk literally...

1. My prime concern is taking out an essential safety feature of rear seat safety belts to reduce the production cost of the Bank Alfalah XLi. Safety of the passengers should take precedence over money. That was my whole point. The government should slash off all taxes on those components of the car which makes it safe like seat belts, air bags and ABS brakes so that we can save lives in the event of a car accident. These parts should be mandatory on all cars let alone be allowed to be taken off to reduce the production cost of the cars.

One of my friends works in Indus he told these missing features and the car a while before this was launched.

And FYI the new shape that is 2009 onwards xli does have rear seatbelts, older shape didn't

If this deal is available on cash I find it pretty good since the cost of the things isn't more than 10k, he didn't tell me about this bank Alfalah blunder so can't comment much.

I gather from your post that one can get those things installed as an aftermarket upgrade. How can we get rear seat belts installed? Will the rear seat belts installed as an aftermarket upgrade work? Have vendors who install aftermarket seat belts done any crash testing on their product? I suppose there are no safety guidelines in Pakistan regulating such engineering features. I have all the reasons to believe that aftermarket safety belts installed by our 'high-tech' installers will simply don't work in an event of a car crash. Toyota's safety belts on its XLis have been installed according to tested engineering standards and will work in the event of a crash. Safety belt is a marvelous piece of engineering and indeed a very high-tech feature.

People have got aftermarket safety belts installed in Islamabad after Islamabad Traffic Police made them mandatory and the quality of all such aftermarket safety belts I've seen is really pathetic.

You have come up with the point that XLis manufactured prior to 2009 don't have safety belts. I take the absence of rear seat safety belts in Bank Alfalah's XLi (worth Rs. 14,99000) and their presence in a regular XLi (worth Rs. 15,68000) as a step backwards and the scenario in 2009 when new models were manufactured with the introduction of rear seat belts as a step forwards and an improvement. I think you will agree with me that we should be going forwards and not backwards.

In my village too the XLi rules all the way. There is a reason behind it. XLi is a robust car as compared to Honda's City. On dirt roads of villages it can take the bashing of a rough ride. Honda's City doesn't seem to be that strong on rough roads. It is a kind of an SUV for villagers and truly it can take the beating which Honda City can't. In the city, Honda City is fine but there too the majority have preferred the XLi and Gli over it. Small wonder that Toyota Indus holds 70% of the market share in the 1300cc bracket which is quite amazing.

If Toyota offers ABS brakes in an XLi it will help the people in the village to avoid a buffalo on the dirt road. There is an unmarked cattle crossing every 10 yards on a village dirt road. He he, :). You do need ABS there!

counted the corollas myself, had to stand myself for nearly 4 hrs every day from 11am to nearly 330pm..

sometimes its good to see how we are operating on grounds...for majority of people safety isn't a priority, unfortunately.

Altho 02-08 Onese didnt, But even in the 2009-13, Jin ki hoti bhee are mostly under the seat covers (sir jee fitting behtar aegi)
