If an engine has been designed and fully tested for 0w-20 and 5w-30, then pouring unrecommended and too thin or too thick engine oils (like 0w-16, 5w-16, xw-40, xw-50, xw-60, etc.) will prove dangerous and harmful for the engine in long run.
Similarly, if an engine like that of Suzuki Mehran is best suited for 10w-40, then pouring thin oils like 0w-20, 5w-20, etc. Will prove dangerous.
All engines have clearances. They are more in old engines / tech. And very small / tight in new and modern engines. So accordingly, extremely thin oils are unsuitable for old engines / tech. And thick oils are for new engines / tech. Respectively.
And... Another most important deciding factor for the use of thin oils in new and modern engines is fuel economy.
