Aqua fuel average drop in summers... dont worry at all

driven 150,000 KM

car is OK, no issues.

i get 25-30kmpl easy in winters ....

i use stock 165/70/14 tyres and zic 5w20 oil

so what happened

here in the lahore heat of end MAY, the vehicle started to behave oddly, namely, the fuel average dropped to 16-17 , even 15kmpl .. worrisome

i ran diagnostics on torque pro, checked Vmax-min levels, all battery cells, tyre pressue topped up , filter cleaned, oil changed

so what happened ? why did the average drop to 16-17 when i easily get 25 ?

the answer = intense summer heat

yeap. my car is parked outside in open at day time . in extreme heat of 46c , the onboard 'computer' has a hard time 'cooling ' the car... the coolant is boiling, the batteries are hot, the ac is working over time to maintain the temp... all that puts the cooling circuit in overdrive and the vehicle works frantically to cool itself... the ac never trips, and the radiator fan is ON all times . more so , the battery controller circuit frequently cuts out charge IN OUT to battery to save it from the heat

in the morning when the temp is down to 35c, the average is fine , goes back to 25-27 band

the solution ;-

park in shadows, keep the interior cool , keep the engine cool, drive with AC at 27C and use a light foot... keep the oil topped up make sure tyres are filled properly ..

I and my cousins have started putting a white towel on the dashboard fully to reflect as much heat possible...it really helps when we return to our car parked in open, and AC doesnt have to struggle much...

I would suggest to use the reflective screen shield too. And parking in the shade is a must. Or if no shade, then a light coloured car cover if the car is to be parked for a few hours in the sun. Extreme heat is a killer!

And to add further, I would like to strongly suggest that everyone should keep all the windows glasses a little bit lower during all the time when car is parked; especially in direct sunlight.

This will help keep car's inside temperature a bit moderate (as air will be crossing all the time in this practice), it will help in rapid / quick cooling when car and AC will be turned ON, etc. and most importantly, it will be very helpful to avoid cracking of windows, windscreen, and back-screen glass.

user of Aqua 2015, suggestion for aqua user to please use genuine 0W20 oil as it is recommended in manual, and also please use genuine air and oil filter, non-genuine air and oil filter also reduces the avg.
Keep the car cabin clean, regularly check the battery vent FAN for its cleaning. do use vacuum cleaner for cleaning of cabin once in a month.
Affect of intense summer heat is much more on short trips, on long trips avg drop is there but less than short trips.

First fuel tank emptied today and the average calculated is 11.4 which is way too low for Aqua I guess, I got mine in the last week of April, got the oil change, used Liqui Moly 0W-20, changed the oil filter, AC filter, the air filter was OK so I didn't changed it.

The got filled using 25% high octane and the rest super. The only thing I have missed is the battery vent fan which is beneath the back seat if I am not wrong. Any more suggestions or thoughts why the average came up so low. It is summer so yeah the AC was always on while driving.

Yes and rightly said. Parking under shade is the best solution, however, if it's not available, then one has to do something alternative.

11.4 is way too low for aqua, minimum recorded in my car is 15, check battery FAN vent, very easy to open cover of battery FAN vent, just two clips are there to open it, these clips are reusable.

Facing similar kind of issue with Fuel average. Using Zic 0W20 oil, car is driven 96000km and it is 2015 Aqua. Odo meter shows 15 - 16 KM/L avg, a.c remains on at 24 - 27 temp depending on day n night time. Filled up the tank and so far driven it 384 KM till now, only two fuel bars are left and if we try to manually calculate the average, it turns out to be 10.6, while car shows 15 - 16. Mostly driven on short trips of 5 KM, while 30 KM trips twice a week.

DO NOT use 0w20 oil . i repeat, DO not use 0w20

this oil is recommended given JAPANs cold climate( all year ) and is mentioned on the bonnet , noted , but these imported AQUAs were never meant to be used in pakistan!
you are practically screwing your engine using such thin oil in pakistans intense heat

use ZIC or good brand 5w20 fully synthetic and change at 6.5k in winters and 4.5k in summers max

one of my friend tried 5W20, fuel avg dropped more so he is back on 0W20, 0W20 is good for atmosphere temp upto 50 degree so no problem in Pakistan

Well, I cleaned the battery fan vent, it wasn't that dirty though, I noticed that on long routes the average shoots to 20kmpl or above but on short drives like going from home to mosque or for grocery and stuff the average starts to drop.

Last Sunday I drove around 50KM and the average went to 20kmpl from 12kmpl and during the week with short drives dropped to 18kmpl and still on that.

I will update when the fuel tank will empty in a couple of days.

Well, it is driven by me, by my father and by the driver, so it is unlikely that I will be able to explain that, as for me I am kinda hard on the accelerator.

That's the issue you got in either aqua or corolla.
Drive within speed limits and according to roads.
