Thanks Xulfiqar. What about carbon buildup? When you remove the air filter box they usually spray carb cleaner to remove the carbon? Is that also not necessary?

Leave it alone, it does not hurt anything, the only time you clean the throttle is when it actually blocks off more than 25% or starts to jam. If you are so worried about "carbon" on the throttle you should look inside the intake manifold - you will be surprised at the amount of muddy build up in there.

the valve clearance job must be botched up. This almost guarantees a weak running engine. Get the engine in proper factory tune and then test.

and btw - fine wire iridium type spark plugs should be very carefully gapped, the fine wire electrode is very brittle and can be fractured or broken if the mechanic shoves a hacksaw blade to adjust the gap.

Thanks for your reply. This shows that irridium plugs have nothing to do with power loss or fuel consumption. Will definitely visit my mechanic for re tune up of engine.

Please also note that as the plugs were installed new so no gaping was done by the mechanic before installation.

Change the spark plugs all the way? What if they are working good? And shall/can we clean the plugs? If yes then how to?

And secondly, what are thr tappet specifications for this engine?

Do you know the model number of this engine (like d16w30 etc etc)? I hope thats called the model number.. I am actually finding engine specs (such as rod bearing clearance, main bearing clearance, crank shaft bearing clearance and etc etc ) of this engine which obviously i can't get these from anywhere in Pakistan(if am not wrong), else than the internet.

Please also share any info you have on this engine or any link you can provide. ANYTHING will be appreciated..

whoever performed the overhaul did not do a good job. The engine is tightening up when coming to temperature, Did your mechanic also change the pistons in the block or replace the sleeve liners too?

only rings were changed and that too of standard size. and valves and valve seals were changed only. this was not a major overhaul.
sluggish means the when engine is hot low end torque becomes less as compared to cold engine.

because of oil reduction that i was facing. oil reduction problem is solved. now after changin rings and valve seals

the bolded part is what was most probably the culprit for oil consumption, If your mechanic reringed the engine on a smooth glass finish cylinder then its money wasted down the drain. Rings require deglazing or honing to make a surface ready for the rings to bed in and seal properly.

yeah i know that deglazing is necessary but these mechanics dont understand these things.
problem! at low rpm the car does missing on petrol olny and at high its fine and smooth. i have a doubt on blockage of slow jet . what do u say?

Please dont write in episodes of discovery.

at first you write that the engine performs poor when hot - this automatically means you have it tuned good, Now you are writing that it is misfiring when cold.

You should have your engine correctly tuned first, the carby requires a good thorough inspection and tune up along with ignition system.

Dear Zulfiqar, I have passo 2006. Recently it has developed a problem. After covering some miles. Less in day and more in night, when temperatures are cooler, the O/D lights starts blinking accompanied by problem in gear shifting. The problem disappears for some time after switching oiff the engine. pl. suggest a solution. I have tried many mechanics and electricians.
