I want to ask about pulse and glide technique on a manual(a swift 1.3 in my case). Will it work for increasing fuel efficiency and will it have any negative effect on the tranmission,engine, gearbox. The technique i use is as under :

1. Push the car to about 90 Km/hour steadily.
2.Release the foot from accelerator and put the car in neutral.
3. Let the car go in neutral till it reaches at about 60 and then engage car in gear(in gear as per speed)
4. Repeat the cycle.

Should not be a pain for anything but a test of your patience...
The fuel efficiency would increase you would still get the best efficiency if you maintain 90kmph at the top gear.

@Xulfiqar bhai can you please tell how to get rid of this sludge i went for tunning at honda dealership and when they opened up the tappet cover it was horrible this much amount of sludge. Now they are recommending to open up all parts and clean them. What do you recommend your openion means alot.

That is debatable, people who support pulse and glide say it saves more than constant speed.

@Xulfiqar bhai can you please tell how to get rid of this sludge i went for tunning at honda dealership and when they opened up the tappet cover it was horrible this much amount of sludge. Now they are recommending to open up all parts and clean them. What do you recommend your openion means alot.

what oil were you using ?
you could try using an engine oil flush like liqui-moly and later on use a fully synthetic oil

Sir i have a Prius 2nd gen 2010 with 91K on the odo,
I am facing a problem that my car is running hard like 'gaari buhat ghut kar chal rahi hai' but when I restart it,it works completely fine.I got NO check lights or any kind of error on the odometer.
I got its engine oil and oil filter changed from Toyota Eastern,they put 20W50 in it.It's been 1k km since its running with this oil. Is this oil OK for my car?,Secondly if not does this problem arises due to the wrong viscosity of oil?
What should I do to diagnose the problem?
Please also suggest some good hybrid specialist in KHI as I donot want to visit Toyota 3S because of the not so good experience that I had.

Which stealership did you went to? this is insane Toyota recently announced using 0W-20 as a recommended engine oil as an alternative to 5W-30(originally for Prius). Since oil 'thins' in normal use, changing it more frequently is less likely to have a beneficial effect but keeping it clean with a new filter is highly recommended.

firstly there are no such hybrid experts and whoever claims to be one is probably on crack
secondly why did you use 20w50 ? Toyota tech. are just a bunch of retards and all across Pakistan just use that one oil be it an old or brand new car
just get the oil changed with the recommended viscosity and use a good quality oil and air filter

Well that is not going to do anything good i guess because the energy lost during the variation in momentum would eventually cancel out the so called efficency if any gained. In my opinion you should study hypermiling concept if you are soo keen about gas saving

i was wondering if i could swap the gear box with an auto one.
i tried to look out for gearboxes but could not find any.
Can you guide me on this?

is this car maintained by a paid driver? Does this car travel only in cities for very short distances?

use a synthetic oil in there and let it clean itself slowly over time, Or fill up with a cheap 30 wt oil, pour half a litre kerosene in there and let it idle for about 15 minutes (do not rev the engine at all), drain out immediately and fill up with a good synthetic oil like mobil1 5W30. Change the oil filter at the next 2000 kms and change the oil at 6000 kms.

A/C is working fine Allah ka shukar but when the fan speed is set on 3 the A/C trips quickly. Turns on and off after 10-15 seconds. When blower speed is set on 4 the A/C takes forever to trip. The thermostat is set at max under the dash.

sounds normal to me - the fin temperature of the evaporator is lower with the blower working slowly. It also depends on how the sensing bulb is placed in the evaporator fins. But its pretty normal for this car to give you pneumonia with A/C blasting away having the temperature lever at full cold and the blower at 4.

yes - you are correct in your analysis of heavy oil in the prius. It does affect its driving.

Aslam u alikum bhai,

So, i was just checking my car's rad. today. And noticed the upper rad. hose is pressurised when fan is off (with engine running) but as soon the fan kicks in the hose is not pressurised any more.

I have read your post that these systems are pressurised and the hoses should be like tight and pressurised with engine running.
But in my case the hose gets soft (press-able) when the fan starts. Is it normal or i am having a problem in my cooling system?

Raise the car from front and then use funnel method till car fans get on. You will see brupping if air is ther

Errm ok so

1- Fill the rad. till top.
2- Lift the car from front i guess 1 foot high from the ground will be enough.
3- get a funnel or a bottle that fits well on the rad. hole fill it with water.
4- start the car and wait for the fan to be switched On.
5- then I'll see air bubles and stuff if there was air in the system.
6- after the bubles settle down. Switch off the car.
And its a job well done.

You mean get a 30 wt and half litre kerosene oil.
Is their a specific ratio of this oil and the kerosene to be mixed and poured in the engine?

Its seems that you are using talo ghee in your engine. BTW Which engine oil you are using in your car.

If you are using Honda genuine engine oil 5w-30 then it is requested to all respected members, please stop using it because Honda 5w-30 is not according to international standards and it will destroy your engines.
