i'll just replace the dust boots for now (if there available) and get a rebuild kit from uk next summers
one last thing (for now :P)
my cars (Corona) steering has some play in it
like when i turn the wheels it feels pretty loose and there isnt much movement at the wheels
also when i brake at 80+ something starts shaking at the front right of the car and when going on a bumpy road
the car has rebuilt struts,new rack ends,stabilizers,ball joint the only thing that wasnt looked at/replaced were control arms bushings and steering rack bushings ialso got a broken strut mount changed with a kabli one (new wasnt available) but i think it too has gone bad
all of this was done in April this year

I have a big question about a very small matter . and now as I have s ingle track mind I will not ask this question from anyone else other than Xulfiquar Bhai. And I am not finding him.
what happened is very little but my mechanic gave me a very strange advice.
Toyota Witz 2006 there was a katak sound from the left front when Plus Ghoonchu Ghooncho which comes some time then goes away.
Mechanic drove the car and said keep on driving [ that is strange] and said when the sound becomes constant
like if (int x = 1 to infinity){ we will replace the axle} real heart braking stuff that he said was ( some times when the cv axle is removed then auto transmission fails and is trashed. } if(he is right){I will keep driving} else { I will keep driving in any case} what should I do Xulfiqar ?

replace the axle itself and make sure to pack it with axle grease only (it comes with new axle).

your mechanic telling you that the trans will fail after changing axle is only correct when the drained out oil is not replenished. meaning - you remove axle, it drains out a litre or so - you dont refill it and drive the car.

Hey @xulfiqar sb, and every one else, please help me choose shocks.

i own 1990 2D corolla (4wd), and its shocks are very hard. I really feel every bump in my body.

I have 3 options

1) agri auto shocks (after market for indus corollas) around 8-9 k
2) KYB (13000 at one shop, various prices at others), no guarantee of their quality

I was also cross checked kyb and bilstein part numbers and found these 2

bilstein > around 27k total Bilstein B4 Front Gas Damper Shock Absorber Insert 21 031380 | eBay

KYB > around 18k total 2X KYB Front Shock Absorber Premier Quality Replacement Excel G 365066 | eBay

In case of ebay i might need to pay customs etc.
KYB seems to be direct fit, while bilstein seems to be bottle only, i dont know what steps it will need before installation.

I want best ride comfort/stability and most reasonable price.

What would you all recommend

I have ease of purchase if i go locally, but ebay may ensure better quality

I also have option to replace kit ('bottle' as mentioned by mechanic) only, probably will get genuine KYB or Techiko kits. Will check prices today.

You once mentioned urethene bushings as well, from where to get them?

I have 1.3 baleno and last night I parked my car but when in morning I tried starting it, the engine cranks but it wont start. Battery is new and its maintenance free Hankook. Between all of this my car started only once then I thought it's all OK but after that same problem persists.

Salam brother, need your help....

I have Toyota Passo 2012 model just bought two weeks ago it was fine since day one but today I am having a strange problem.
in the morning when I press the unlock button on the door handle with remote key in my pocket it did noting but the doors were opened and there were security lock icon poping on the screen. I can feel the brake pedal become harder and the push key get struck and not rotating. I have also changed the remote cell but the problem is still there.

Please help me to resolve this problem.

check the crankshaft position sensor wiring and connector, that is usually the case of no start.

If your car was FF CNG, then bypass the advancer wiring (behind the glovebox) it intercepts the crankshaft position sensor wiring and goes bad when it gets old.

And lastly, how should we clean old grease/oil from a bike chain, I need to do that since I am going to use spray silicone grease on my bike's chain.

the manual rack takes fluid grease which is NLGI-00 grease, its a semi solid (like a very very thick oil). for the second part, what boot are you cutting exactly? the rack boots are installed over the rack ends without cutting, the ball joints, tie rods and cv joint boots stay intact too. - which boot are you cutting?

for chain - do not use silicone grease spray on the chain, its not meant for chain drive lubrication as it has got almost no extreme pressure properties.. Get some chain lube - its made for it and hardens to a wax coating.

i can't say exactly (since i had to go to office leaving the vehicle) what boots are they but the mechanics named them as 'cut boots' they are rubber items and (by their design) i guess they go on some rod like thing that slides (probably left and right,by looking at worn boots) the mechanic used a hand saw blade and cut them and then installed them. They were a pair.i could feel steering movement i bit steadier (but not significant) i asked him why did he cut by himself and why they weren't already in the desired shape right from the packing and it means they are not supposed to be used/installed that way he said but thats how we do it and it works this way too. otherwise it takes alot of time

and about the chain - i have read somewhere in very oooold comments of yours of melting a grease and dipping chain in it and the letting it dry so that i comes back to 'waxy' type viscosity. Can i do that ? I have a ZIC grease lying around has a melting point of around 220'Cs if i remember corectly

I think you are talking about the anti-roll bar bushings, they are D shaped and are cut lengthwise before install. To get most life out of it, use silicone grease in the holes, do not use any petroleum oil or grease.

for chain lube, you can use molten grease - but its a very messy exercise.

If you are installing the strut inserts then carefully read the install instructions, nearly all brands tell you to use a liquid buffer medium for cooling in the strut housings, I used to put a coolant/water mix or ATF (about 75 ml) - this liquid acts as the heatsink for the damper - it transfers the heat to the housing.

Bilstein warn against this, best install is when you follow the manufacturer instruction.

Its not an easy task, you need the front end plus engine, trans and center diff, the complete rear end and driveshaft, the fuel tank, the floor pans (or make them) and the hubs/brakes/tires/wheels of all 4 corners. Then you can start with the wiring part.

Do you have experience of such work or are you going to be the wallet owner and the mechanic will be the karigar?

What bushings should i use, i have no idea other then your 2 comments
- "if bushings are shot car rides like a bull in mud"

Regarding Shocks i have 2 options

1 Pakistan , get genuine agry auto (indus oem) or shady KYBs
2 ebay, i have KYB and bilstein struts (without springs) option, I cross matched to toyota genuine part number (found on some website).

Local purchase option gets better if i use shock inserts, as 2 big dealers were more confident about imported variety of 'inserts' (kits). Probably will get good KYB stuff in that case.
