I have recently purchased a 7th Gen Civic (EXI Prosmatic) and trying to fix things that were neglected by the previous owner. Who in this case is a close friend.
At speeds over 30kmph i hear a bearing noise from the rear left side. It has all the classic symptoms of a bearing noise (the howl). I showed it to a suspension guy and he checked all wheels by lifting it up on the jack. He thinks there is no excess play or noise. We took a test drive and the howl was audible. Is it possible for a wheel bearing to only make noise under load? do you think i should go ahead and replace the bearing which i think is shot? The suspension guy told me that the bearing cannot be replaced and ill have to replace the hub. He recommended me to drive it as is until the sound becomes louder. Since this is an otherwise very quite car, this howling gets on my nerves plus my wife (who did not want us to buy another car) makes weird faces cuz of this noise.
The car is around 100k done but it is reasonable condition. Till 60k it was maintained at Honda Korangi, the transmission oil was never replaced and i am thinking of replacing it now.
I am thinking to flush the coolant, although it seems it has caltex red coolant but i am confusing it with rust. Thinking to do it anyways as the cooling system is stock with Tstat and autofan.
