The car i test drove...then thingy about this thread is not about BMW cars in India.That's a doozy. The thingy is that these cars are India specific from emissions norms to suspension and output levels. Tailor made for the Indian market. That's why i was interested in taking a close look.I drove this car. I say (Y). The diesel did 0-100 in 8.3 seconds.

the X3...import , but like the 7-series , homologated for the Indian market and sold , serviced by authorized dealers. All this means lower maintenance costs.

Going back....got stuck due to a minor skirmish between a motorcyclist and car driver. Just check out the mayhem!. Interestingly, i saw the Mitsubishi(India) Montero(new Pajero to you guys) in front of me. Took this pic.

bro plz tell me a few things,is the quality of these bmws same as those produced in the bmw homeland?nd wat abt the specs nd accessories?the price seems relatively lesser.or am i wrong?do u ppl hav the Zs nd 1 series ,mini etc?or convertible version?bmw just in INDIA is all-auto or the whole world?

As far as I know the ZF India, Hella, Robert Bosch etc provide transmissions, steering, fuel management, electrical, etc from their Indian factories. Some body parts are sourced from other Indian vendors.

Without the support of an advanced components industry such cars will be prohibitively expensive to import or meet the Indian homologation programme.

Unless the volume approaches about 20,000 cars per annum I don’t see how they can increase the deletion level and reduce cost further. Till then Indians will continue to buy the Merc as its more local since Indian manufacturing commenced in early 90’s.
