At which RPM or speed one should downshift the gears

Hello dear, everyone talks about forward gear shifting but no one talking about down shift pattern. Please guide me at which speed or RPM we should downshift. Like In my Honda City 1.3 i forward the gears like this.
1st-2nd 20 km/h
2nd-3rd 40 km/h
3rd-4th 60 km/h
4th-5th 80 km/h
Or at above 2k RPM.
Please guide me right downshift pattern. Thanks

But i need to understand for manual transmission. Everyone downshift by their own way but i need to know what is the suggested and right way.

Downshift is not a definitive answer, its dependent on engine design, torque demand from driver and a whole host of other matters.

One can be having 5th gear on 60km per hour or on 3rd gear on the same speed on your honda city. It totally depends on conditions in which the car is being driven. So doesn't matter . The preferred way is to keep the RPM between 2 and 2.5 before shifting to the next gear while downshifting other measures are taken into account like in Non-Abs vehicles downshifting is used to brake in emergency conditions. Downshifting depends more on the road and driving conditions rather than speeds .

Are you sure that engine braking is only employed for Non ABS cars?

Downshifting pattern depends mainly on gear ratios...

ABS only provides traction during hard braking (only when it is engaged) and this traction allows the driver to steer away and evade from the danger. In normal braking situation there is no difference whether ABS equipped or not.

All cars can have the engine braking specially the triptonic features allow the auto tranny cars to enjoy engine braking as needed.

some pieces of trash have programmed a "rev hang" into the ECU which is supremely annoying for seasoned drivers who learned on analog controlled carburettor cars.

its like a dashpot but literally hangs the throttle for literal seconds.

good brands who pride themselves on quality and driving experience of certain products make sure such rev hang is minimal.

Please go and see comparsion of Abs vs Non Abs vehicle. Abs do perform braking much before than a non abs vehicle. Yes Abs also allow to evade by helping vehicle steer but all cars don't have engine braking or you can say that all cars do not have an effective engine braking like the ones which are automatic without triptonic controls while manual ones have much more engine braking through a sudden down shifting.

I have never come across an standard issue ABS system that effectively changes the timing of braking. Are you confusing ABS with EBD like in Bosch ESP system?

or you are thinking of Toyota Electrohydraulic brake unit like in Prius, Land Cruiser and Lexus LS?

Yes I agree that downshifting doesn't have a binary answer but do slow a vehicle to much extent but what I am saying is that Abs performs better than a non abs in my opinion and experience as it prevents slipping .

Sir correct me if i'm wrong doesn't somehow it helps in manual for powershifts like in case of flat foot?

it reduces drivetrain whiplash and emmissions - mostly emmissions (thats why the carburettor dashpot was invented) - but some manufacturers literally asked some internee to write that piece of software so you get a rev hang that sticks like glue.

As @Xulfiqar also mentioned:
ABS do not enhance the braking force at all, let me explain you that, in a straight line stopping scenario if ABS kicked in it will take more lenth to completely stop the vehicle than a non ABS equipped version of same make.

The function of ABS is only to provide the driver an option to evade the obstacle. Hence it is absurd to tag ABS as better stopper of car.

Engine Braking
In non triptonic cars there are options of D2 and L which also also provide engine braking, hence in old auto car manuals you will find comments about decending hill with shift positions at D2 or L. If there is an ICE in a car there will remain engine braking in all scenarios unless the rings are worn out of designed specs.

For EV cars the regenerative braking is present as the EM forced generate power from the kinetic energy and send them to batteries.
