I second you, people comment on cars and brands without even having the experience of owing, driving or even watching them in real life. You can't just go on and use the words of some reviewer and make it sound like you know everything about that car. It's my request to all just be a bit realist and rational when passing judgements and commenting on something.
Coming back to this topic both these cars are good in their own ways..if you need a premium luxury car with plush drive then LS is the car for you and if you are looking for a car with an agile steering and handling and you are willing to compromise a litte on luxury A8 is the car for you.

my choice would stick to Lexus LS 460L (Y) most significantly due to its design, its one of the beautiful looking sedans

however dont forget the king of luxuries the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, world one the most profound engines the 5.5, 383 hp (286 kW) V8 in the S500/S550.

My dear brother, this comparison has been taken from a website. Its not that the guy has posted as what he perceives about these two cars.

People do base their judgements on the words of reviewer because they can't have any authentic information about the car before buying it. If I want to buy a Mercedes S Class then what do you think I'll go to showroom and test drive all cars in that class and during test drives i'll take them around the corners fast to see the handling, keep them using for sometime to see the reliability issues and crash into something to evaluate the crash test ratings myself? No. I'll see the authentic reviews on those cars and then make my decision of what to buy and what not to and If it is about gaining information then yes it is quite a reliable source because the renowned reviewers test the cars in detail and then write anything about it.

Lexus emerged out in late 80s and Mercedes in the 1890s; the point youre missing is that Lexus is a division of Toyota and Toyota has been around in the industry for over 75 years, so they know the biz.

Lexus giving a tough time to BMW/Audi/MB, what are you crazy? Yes, Lexus, Acura and Infiniti are all in the same segment, hence they are competitors. They are not giving a tough time to either of the Germans- know that BMW 3 series is the best selling luxury sedan in the United States, where vehicular competition is fiercest.

That Lexus has achieved more than any other brand, how do you justify that fallacious statement with a baseline of ridicule? Lexus has certainly achieved a lot and won the hearts of millions, but that is primarily due to its linkage to Toyota, not to its own achievements.
Furthermore, Mercedes & BMW have achieved a lot more than any other "competitor". They are the benchmarks of luxury.

The Lexus LS600L hybrid is NOT the most technologically advanced vehicle, though it is great. The Mercedes S600 is way more intriguing, not to mention BMWs mighty Alpina B7 or Audi's glamorous A8L W12. The 5.5 biturbo Mercedes in the S600 produces over 30% more hp & torque than any Lexus; it has goodies unheard of to Lexus and features revolutionary. And then talk about BMW...

The Germans are just nothing, the Japs are taking over: what the hell are you talking about dude! Japs are already over! Toyota is the global leader in vehicular manufacturing, and then Honda, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Acura, Nissan, Infiniti- dude they have already captured the market.

But no- in no way are they superceding the Germans in technology. Know that the 3 main German brands set the luxury benchmark and are looked up to as the introducers of new and revolutionary technology. Examples? Take the recent (3yr old) night vision...
