I agree, although Audi isn't the first to introduce a diesel sports car. There was another manufacturer, who put a DMAX engine coupled with an 8-speed automatic in a tube-framed car resembling a TVR. It's the Trident Iceni.

@Gem_guy
In the excitement I forgot that I had made a previous thread :p! Thanks for pointing out!
@Bilal
Nope, it's not normal, but the thing that limits a diesel engine's speed is the combustion process. Diesel combustion is slower because;
a. The fuel is injected, vapourised, and burnt during a maximum of about 60 degrees of crank rotation. At lower speeds, it's around 20 degrees.
b. Diesel fuel vapourises "slower" (needs more energy to vapourise than petrol), thus the vapourisation phase is slower.
c. In a petrol engine, fuel is injected and vapourised outside the cylinder, so only the combustion is left behind, which doesn't take long. Flame speed for diesel and petrol vapours are about the same.
If you can shorten the duration of injection, vapourisation, and / or the combustion, you can rev higher and potentially make more power.
Apologies if I went into too much detail! But that's what really happens in a diesel engine! :d
Cheers!
