Auto car on mountain areas

its vti auto 04
been driving it in city n on motorway
but its the first time that it will be going on mountain side i.e to the monal (pir sohawa) islamabad.
so can any1 give some tips on how to drive it there,it should be in D, D2 or D3?
n can it be changed from D to D3 or D2 without pressing brake?

last night had the experience
was driven by my dad as i wasnt going.
D was used while going up,then on inclines D3 n on steep roads D2 was used as it wasnt going otherwise
n on the way back,only D was used

Only "D" will not work; use D, D3 and 2 as/when required; you have to drive it just like a manual car. You can shift gears without pressing the brake; but do it sensibly. Use engine braking by keeping it in lower gears when coming downhill.

Do not use 2 when going uphill as you might be well aware that 2 means the car would only stay in 2nd gear, not good if you have to move from stand still specially going uphill. Whilst coming down you can put it in 2 for maximum engine braking and use brake pedal whenever required.

btw doesnt D2 means that car wont go above D2 that is will start from first then second but no 3rd gear n same thing for D3?
there will be sharp turns n then sharp slopes as well so which mode to use there then?i was thinking D2 would be best there as car wont shift beyond 2nd though first gear is what will be needed there

n does changing D to D2 while moving car effects gear box in anyway?

you are reinventing the wheel my friend :).

going down hill keep it in d2 and while going up d2 or d3 which ever feels good.

when going up on extremely high inclines its required to keep the car in a lower gear to ensure the engine remains in the torque curve otherwise you will lose power on upshifts.

using lower gear on downwards is done because the engine braking helps slow the car. Just make sure you dont overheat the transmission by inducing shifts and then lugging it.

Only you have to take care when coming back down hill because using too much breaks is not recommended and cars rolls much freely in D better to lower to D2 when coming to too much steep other wise only pressing the OD is OK .

drive up to a convenient point where you can leave car safely parked & take a walk it will help you really good for whatever weight issues you have. No offence am sure weather is also in transition to help you enjoy more

the CVT is pretty smart in handling load - but be very very careful when its working under load the transmission temperatures can go really high, be sure to take breaks in climbing.

for up hill use D as long as engine is not Labouring as the PROTEST become high, shift to S and move on, when going gets further tough in S , shift to L and move on. - However - down hill journey shall remain in S if momentum increases shift to L - REMEMBER S & L for down-hill use less of brake, back to ground level shift to D and drive normally.

Sir I am a frequent visitor of monal and I have never used anything else than "D". I ve been to kalabagh and beyond and some pretty steep roads. D works just fine.

Car shift management is intelligent enough to shift between gears. I guess D3 , 2 are bettwr used down hill when you want to break the speed.

What is your opinion ?

my father own a Civic prosmetic what i noticed in my very extreme ups and downs driving is that there,s a very clever thing inside whenever u feel like u need power just push the accelerator a bit more like u r speeding the car and the car will automatically push it self by lowering gear and doing whatever it need as per 2 ur requirement and when coming down just keep ur car in d2 and let ur car to speed a bit as if u r going too slow than engine is not gonna help u at all as u will increase speed engine will start helping u limiting the speed and u will need just light foot on brakes to maintain the speed and sure Manual are best on mountains and bol for pir sohawa
