Even D2 will start from fist gear! What will you do when tranny shifts to 3rd gear in D while you are on a steep incline? The car will completely lose power. Stick to D2. it will start with first gear and go up til 2nd gear. In 2nd gear you will have enough power to negotiate a steep incline. Only expert drivers are able to keep the required gear while driving in D. You are new to this, stick to D2.

i remember once i was going to monal with some1 in mehran,car stopped on steep incline in middle,n it easily went up from there yet its a 800cc car so y cant 1600cc do the same
anyways advices here are mixing,i guess D will b fine,in case of issues D2 can be used

you dont need a perfect driver to go on hill, just drive safe and youd be fine.Driving honda civic is not a rocket science. its commonly sold car worldwide, if its was a difficult car,p eople wont buy it. and yes, when you post, you read too. after 4700 posts we expect yr spend time reading things other write...( this include topics on honda civic. )

Just go to last shift. most car manufacturers use last shift as 1st gear. 2nd one up will be 1st and 2nd gear. then regular drive , neutral, reverse , park. it should be in this order, alphabets may differ but most cars have similar shift for drivers ease.

press brake to stop . always keep in low shift and keep brake pressed, when you release brake and car is in low gear, engine will automatically hold car for some time till you press accelerator and use handbrake to stay put in one place.

never stay in neutral while stop in traffic , always put it in park.. if your car start going down as car was in neutral and brake pressure start loosing . you will have to grind gears.

one ignorant driver ruined gearbox he went to reverse and accelerated while his car was rolling forward downhill.

drive it in D bro. just dont brake on turns when going uphill. go on cng if u want to. no issues at all. if at any place u feel the car is lagging, shift the gear to D2 and then come back to D when u feel right.
Going to Monal only requires that you dont use brake on the turns. just keep a steady pace. you will enjoy the drive.

Sir I am a frequent visitor of monal and I have never used anything else than "D". I ve been to kalabagh and beyond and some pretty steep roads. D works just fine.

Car shift management is intelligent enough to shift between gears. I guess D3 , 2 are bettwr used down hill when you want to break the speed.

What is your opinion ?

First thing first....I dont often drive in hilly areas so I am not an expert!

The A/T cars offer L/D2/D3 (whatever) for reason; and one may (and should explore) use them when/where required (but of course sensibly)

I spotted few A/T cars going uphill at snail pace; their drivers must were relying on technology; while our A/T car had no issue when things were under driver's control. Our lunch was served when they were giving orders

By My Experince For A Hilly Place Like "Monal" Drive In " D3 " But One Has To Change Shift To " D2 " for Some Of The Aggrisive Corners/ Sharp Turnnings Whr The Car Needs A Motion To Continue It's Climbing With Speed & Power Without Applying Brakes .

Same Agreed To The Experts D2 Works Perfect While Coming Down From Hill As Car Motion, Braking, Speed & Steering Control Is Perfevt To Drive Smooth & Confident So That One Can Easily Take Over The Hard Point.

& Enjoy The Trip Brother.

it was night time so no pics taken + it was just the parents
driving an auto on mountain just required a one off experience,the main question for which this thread was posted was if there is any adverse effect on gear box if we shift D to D2 or D3 in a moving car without pressing brake

btw
if car is stationary n race is given like till 3-5k n then N to D to give it acceleration,does that effects gear box,some say it does some say it doesnt,but i never tried it.

last night had the experience
was driven by my dad as i wasnt going.
D was used while going up,then on inclines D3 n on steep roads D2 was used as it wasnt going otherwise
n on the way back,only D was used

Further, which car is moving and changing gear without pressing brakes does not affect the gearbox but u need to remove ur foot away from accelerator, however when u r at speed where 4th gear is required and u put the car in 3rd gear, it may ruin ur gear box.

From static position always put in D when car is in idle RPM position.

cant digest this point
D is used when car is completely stopped n change gear by taking foot off the race,u cant apply it on steep incline

as for panga,i dont want to experiment anything,i just floor it right from 0 if i want the pick
