Auto transmission oil and power steering oil

I took my car altis 2006 auto to toyota garden motors for 50000km service,got the fluids changed.the guy changed the power steering oil with the auto transmission oil and said that both are just the same.can any one tell me that is it true?or power steering and a/t fluids are different??
auto trans oil may not harm my power steering...plz give your advises....

I had the same thing done with my auto altis too and the added the same stuff for both. So i guess it is valid.

i had power stearing only ... when i got oil for it , it had auto trany oil written on it .. i asked and reply from my stupid mechanic was both are same, i wasent sure because mechanics are mostly uneducated, i asked many people but both are same was the answer.

yeah they are both same.....Auto Tranny Fluid is also used as Power Steering Fluid.....Its mostly red In Color...!

as i asked about my mechanic & realted technical pupil they told me although it is common practice but it is not recommended one
(most of time ,oil shop dont have power steering fluid so they said both are same)
if both have same value, then why company are preparing 2 different grade oils( why dont factory manufactured,when car is new) they put same oil
because this is clear that these are differnt classes & cannnot be use vice versa
ALso A/T oil comes under category of OIL while Pwers teering fluid is NOT OIL, it is type of FLUID
you can ask difference between OIL & FLUID from any Mechanical Engineer
next time, dont do this,always insist for Power steering fluid for power steering

The Altis Manual clearly says.
T-IV for Transmission
DX-II for Power steering Fluid.
Also on a side note
I had my Altis transmission oil changes some 15 days ago and the Toyota Islamabad Motors (ABPARA) fellow insisted on putting DXII in the auto trnasmission claiming that this is the oil we used in all Toyota Vehicles.
However when I insisted and said Ok let me check in the Open market he produced the T-IV Box as posted by Levin.
In case you have the receipt of the Toyota Garden please check the oil type whether its T-IV or DXII.
The prices of DX-II is RS409 and T-IV is RS 449 by Toyota Islamabad. In Open Market T-IV is for RS400
They did the same BS with an SE Saloon of my Friend and have changed its transmission oil to DXII instead of T-IV.
Older Corollas like Japan Assembled 2000 Model requires DXII.
The easiest way to check the recommended oil is the Transmission DIPStick which has the oil type clearly engraved on it.
I hope and pray that like Islamabad they dont screw up in Lahore.
