Automotive engineering?

Hello everyone,

I Did my O levels and will now be starting A levels in september, I always dreamt of being an autmotive engineering all my life because of my love for cars and the passion. This profession is not so common in pakistan and I doubt if we have any automotive engineers there, anyways coming to the point. I wanted to know if someone on pakwheels is an autmotive engineer or in any way related to the automotive industry, I wanted to know if this career is worth opting for, Iv heard from people that this is not that rewarding career, I would be starting my A levels and I need to take the right subjects. I really need your help because I need to make decisions, I am very good with maths. If someone could help me out here, give information about automotive engineering or any other career on the rise I would really be thankfull. It would be nice to know the average salary an autmotive engineer gets because this is what matters the most after a few things.

Darling; Ab lohar to Corolla, Civic ya hino trucks etc manufacture ker nahin rahay hayn idher. Ofc Auto-Engineers are here in abundance. & the course is offered by many top-notch Universities in Pakistan.

Khair, If I were you then I would go for Auto-Design or Transportation design course, There are some very great uni's in England which offer them. And there are no Auto/transportation-designers in Pakistan.

I ment engineers like the ones who work on the development of newer technologies, I know lohars are not making civics and corrolas but those engineers are only working at the plant, the design and development department is in the headquarters where the cheif engineers work..

Nahin yar, I meant look if u work hard and do your bachelors/ masters in a course, there is an average pay for a particular profession i just wanted to know if this profession is worth the hard work, because engineering takes a lot of effort.

I see that you're from the UK so you have "way" better chance of getting a degree in automotive engineering from there and getting a very good job in your field. Here in Karachi, you have 2 choices. You can either do a 3yr diploma from St. Patricks technical school. If you pass with a good grade, you can get yourself an admission in NED's automotive engineering degree course 2nd year (a total of 4yrs). Your second option is to apply directly in NED's auto engineering degree program. Ofcourse, this will be a more direct yet uncertain route as ive heard that there are around 50 seats in total and sudents from all over the country apply for a seat. You can also "buy" a seat, however these seats too are limited. Hope this helps somewhat. cheers.

Yeah, I know about NED, but I will be studying in the uk now, I just wanted to know a little information about this profession from someone who is in this field or has even the slighest idea about this profession, I just dont want to make a mistake choosing the right career as one cannot start over again. The effort put into engineerin is imense and I want to know if it pays off, and if doesnt I might have to think about changing my plans. just want some help regarding this.

There must be someone here from the automotive industry as pakwheels is all around the globe with lots of people with lots of different professions, anyone ?

dude ive heard that NED university in karachi has started it and soon will be in NUST islamabad..................... ive read it in newspaper about 3-4 months ago.........!!!!!!!!

@shezy A distant acquaintance of mine used to work for Honda ATlas. He was a mechanical engineer. Automotive engineering as a specialized field is not very common here in Pakistan as you can see that hardly any university offers a program in that and those who go abroad, they dont normally come back. There isn't much research and development or production happening in Pakistan in automotive field. If you want to work and live in Pakistan, i'd suggest you to go for a Bachelors in Mechanical and then later on you can specialize in automotive. This will let you have more than one options. Else go to UK (as u r already going) and do automotive engineering. You will have a much much better scope abroad. May be someday you will be working for ferrari or anyother giant InshaAllah. I am in the UK, thanks for your advice, I know automotive engineers doesnt have any scope there in pakistan, Yeah here there is big scope for automotive engineers and the auto industry is huge

Dude im doing Automotive Engineering, From NED university. Im in Final Year. We are the first Batch in all over Pakistan. But unluckily the situation Pakistan is not so good to start a career as an automotive engineer. Most of the companies are not doing manufacturing to the which is required in Pakistan.

my advice to you is, if you want to do engineering, Go to mother fields, like Mechanical or electrical engineering. These are evergreen fields and after graduation you have quite a large option to do masters in many related fields. These are mother fields and you will not get any difficulty to get a job. However if you choose a sub field, like automotive is sub field of mechanical you will be more specific for jobs. You have only few industries to apply. In Pakistan still there is no trend to accept new fields. Good luck for the better Future.

If u want to do engineering of any sort, opt for Physics, Chem, Maths and Further Maths in ur A'Levels. Coming to the point of doing an automobile engineer, as there is no scope of automobile engineering in PK since the ppl working at Honda Atlas and Toyota Indus rn't true automobile engineers at core since they only follow certain instructions to assemble a car, they dnt do or come up with something innovative.
In europe and japan, automobile engineers r really appreciated. quoting an example, my uncle's cousin (who is Pakistani by birth) is working for Aston Martin in europe. If u really want to do automobile engineering, do it from some reputed university in either japan or europe.

I m studying in NED automotive engineering. In pakistan no research and develepment is being done yet bcz of no automotive engrs.Now when NED has started producing them then companies will take steps in this direction with pure automotive engrs in their hands. And when this trend starts, designing will soon be started. Adam Revo was fully designed and manufactured in pakistan but in spite of that being the first "Pakistani car", every body critisized it. We should learn from indians, even if their product is 3rd class, they still over rate it. And now we see the results, plenty of quality cars fully designed and manufactured in India...if we support our products with patience, then we r not in any way inferior to anybody....
