Well the thing is that if you have resources do utilize (not throw) them. But I understand the resale concern and at some stage of life you have to think about it due to financial situation.
My first car was Datsun 120 it was out of market car, bought for about 37K, but it went for 50K after 12 years, though I missed a 65K offer.
Second car was a Khyber 91. Got it for 215K in 1999 and sold for 270K in 2005
Third car was zero meter Corolla Xli 2005, bought it for 850K and sold it for 11 lakh after 10 years. But the Xli I did not buy for resale but because I could not pay more installments for Gli and Altis.
This time I was going for Gli Auto, but when compared prices 1.6 was too close and for the past 10 years I had been driving a 1.3, so decided to go for 1.6. Wanted to reach to Grande, but lacked funds. Will think about it couple of the years down the road and if fund situation allowed.
Altis will not have a resale like Xli-Gli, but it will give you pleasure and joy and comfort. The extra 300 cc and dual vvti do make a lot of difference.
If you can go for Grande do it, it's totally a new car (except alloys), new engine, new transmission.
