I have heard of potentially beautiful Hill Station mountain in Sindh called as Badro Jabal located at n26°06' 20" e67°39'04"

Has anyone travelled there? It is near Lasmo/ENI Oil fields.

Me and my friends are planning to travel on 4x4 during the extended eid holidays around between 18th and 21st November and spend the night there and do astronomy out there with our huge telescope as we did at Hingol shown at https://www.pakwheels.com/forums/road-trips-vacations/150046-pakistani-night-priceless-gem

Let me know if anyone wants to join us with their 4x4. If anyone has had experience with this location would appreciate advice on road conditions and security.

Here is the info.
Route
Just before reaching Sehwan from Karachi, there is a bridge with police checkpost, take the left turn. This is Jhangara-Bajara Road. It will take u to Badro Jabal. It is around 25 km from there & it is paved road. Near Jabal (Mountain), there is some steep climb so It is better to have 4X4.
Accomodation
There is a Govt Rest house there & chowkidars will be more than glad to provide u accomodation there, else u camp nearby.
Food
Take ur own food but the chowkidars can arrange & cook it for you
Security
There is no issue about it in that area.

i inadvertentlly mentioned the wrong date, i am planning to visit on the next moonless night on 6th November and would be delighted if you can join us. I will be with my friends in my 4x4.

My next target would be to visit Gorakh Hills as i believe there is bortle 1 dark sky patch out there facing toward balochistan.

It would be great if you can join us.

As we plan to stay awake the whole night to have our astronomy session out there.... I prefer to start late and reach by 4pm and start installing our gear which itself takes around 30 minutes and needs to be completed before the darkness sets on.

For us to reach there by 4pm, what time would you suggest we leave from Karachi? Alternatively we can even leave in early morning and then catchup to sleep before starting our Astronomy session out there.

Do mobile phones work there? Or do we need thuraya out there?

It took me 5 hours to reach Shewan at a speed of 80kms and less with few stopovers, Badra Jabal is 60 kms more, i think the best time will be that leave 9 ~ 10am, if we reach early we can enjoy the view

The Air distance from Badro Jabal to the tower on N55 is 30kms NE and there is also one tower in Baran,
22kms SW of Jabal. We will be 3000ft above both towers so i dont think Thuraya will be needed

Dear Mr. Merchant,
u have put me in a fix.
I am planning to camp at Hingol on 6/11 & 7/11 & in process of making arrangement.
But this thing has double minded me.
I shall consult my friends & call u.
BTW, at present there is no road link b/w Sehwan & Dadu due to water flowing from Manchar lake to Indus near bubak.
So u cannot go to gorakh now.
But if r fond of archeology then start early from KYC & take a 1-2 hr break at RaniKot Fort. It is near SANN & 40 minutes drive on a link road.
If u go there then u will think about having ur scope at that place.
Anyhow it is a long discussion & if i join u then we will have a long chat.

I like your idea about visiting Ranikot but on the way back. It takes 2 to 3 hours inside the Fort. Once you are at the Fort you should walk the 3 kms track and see the camping site.
Leave Badro Jabel at sunrise and stay few hours at Ranikot.

I would agree with Libra suggestion

The reason we are opting Badro Jabal as viewing deep sky objects is much better on the hieghts provided its not cloudy and the horizon viewing space would be amazing out there.

I would try to avoid ranikot as that area is called as blue zone area with light pollution, although the fort area itself is grey zone which is similar to Badro Jabal but still near light pollution and you cant beat the astronmy viewing from hieght of badro Jabal.

Dissapointed to hear Gorrakh hills is off limits.

Call me on Friday night or Saturday anytime after 1pm.

I didnt realise this was your post untill i looked up at your ID. We had met together with Zain, Kishore and my other friends at Nani Mander.

I believe Zain spoke to you that our Astronomy Society would like to purchase land located in Bortle 1 dark skies as nearest to Karachi as possible, motoroable, preferable located at hieght with as wide sky horizon view and as further away from sea as possible. Would appreciate your thoughts and suggestion....

The idea is to promote Astro tourism on non-profit basis.
