Civic is certainly better option, but if you are looking for cheap maintenance / better fuel economy go for Baleno.
salam,u can get a relatively newer baleno as compared to civic as ppl r asking 750-850 k for 2000 civic. few months back my frnd sold civi vti oriel auto for 7,25k.

you will find hardly find civic in your budget which is 12 to 14 year old but you will find a good baleno in this budget which will never had the issues like engine overhaulling and suspension type problem also the interior of that baleno will also be good as compare to 12 to 14 year old civic.I think you must go to baleno.
