Battery Heat Shield!

Does anyone know where I can get a plastic battery heat shield like the one shown in the picture? The car is old shape Indus corolla. I've checked with old parts stores and they don't have it here in rwp.

The heat shield prevents the radiator from blowing hot air onto the battery. Prolongs battery life.

hmmm it doesnt make any sense if that Heat Shield is so effective in prolonging the battery life then y Automakers r not installing it?? i hav not seen such shield thingy in any JDM vehicle

jdm cars are not built for long life, its against their economy as they produce a lot of cars and they NEED to sell them. That is why the paint is so cheap on them too.

these sort of shields are used a lot in EU, US, Africa, ME, Russia etc in cars where the battery is installed in the engine bay, e.g the Ford Focus etc have a full battery box with dedicated vent in the engine room. old BMW had a jacket type button down cover for batteries like Volvo, SAAB etc. - In those two it was specified to keep the battery warm as it also had a heater patch on it too.

even the old mazda 929s 626, 323 had them - and the proper imported Nissan Sunnys too. Its a black box in which the battery clamp rods can pass. I also remember a local plastic molding business in Karachi used to make them for small batteries and I saw a lot of them in Mehran, Khyber etc.

Hmm I will look for it whenever I goto market. But i am still using the OLD big 90Amp diesel battery in my 7AFE :embarass:.

Why not make one? With Metal sheet and paint it black?

I thought this shield is anti rust, coz sometimes the acid in battery comes out,

All VW batteries are wrapped in Black fibre type material.

the battery acid is drained via the plastic tray with built in drain and a pipe attached to it that dangles under the car. This is to protect the battery from the direct hot air blast from the radiator. extreme heat and cold kills batteries.

there is another reason for this. In case of crash the acid should not spill away, its to contain it. creating hazard for occupant of the vehicle or the one who come to rescue .. Safety first I was told this by VW rep in an auto show.

no its not for safety - its to prevent baking the battery.

The only safety rated batteries are AGM as they are usually installed in cars which have them INSIDE the cabin - Porsche, mercedes BMW etc.

may be you are right.. but this year I particularly asked this from an agent on new VW GTI stand. I lost mine in my last car and the hood was open for the demo car. The VW guy said its for safety..

In the event of a crash - the battery stays in the engine room - unless you had the one of a kind completely ripped apart crashes (in which the driver dies from shock - so it doesnt matter if the battery remains pretty or not)

Safety hmm reminds me of a army driver who was using battery acid to whiten his teeth. Lost 24 teeth :eek:
