Battery powered PTCL Internet Router

I am using a PTCL Broadband router; the one by which you can also use the in house wifi.

but as its the season of load shedding so i wanted to know if i could use it on rechargeable battery system when i don't have the electricity.

Do i have to make some experiment by connecting a Rechargeable Battery system into a DC converter? OR there is any ready made option available in the market which i can utilize?

Can someone help please? will be really appreciated.

the router is 12V 0.8A (that's what is written on it's back).

Buy a small capacity UPS.

600 VA will be more than enough. good company one like apc will cost around 6500 and normal around 3500 to 4000.

Do what's mentioned above, with the UPS you'll enjoy the freedom to use a few fan's and light's when there is loadshedding aswell.

you're right dude but as i am a student and considering the amount of heat in my pocket i cant afford a ups.

therefore, what i am picturing in my mind is a standard simple battery along with a charging system which can give the router back up of only an hour. more like a battery system in a chargeable fan.

i am picturing something like this

charging adapter ==> battery (back up of an hour max) ==> PTCL router ==> Using Internet on Laptop

the battery keeps on charging when there's light and the router should be working by taking the power from battery and when the power is off, obviously, the router would be working as its taking power from battery.

so how can i put it in real? help would be really appreciated.

The wateen guys were giving a small UPS for 1000 rupees along with their routers. If you have any contacts in Wateen, try getting the UPS alone from them.

If not, I'm sure you can find a smaller UPS from the market.

The next best thing would be a worldcall/wateen/witribe/ptcl evdo USB stick.

i don't think that a battery solution will be the simple one... and i don't guarantee it either..

search on internet any circuits for a charging circuit powered by a battery,, design the circuit, do the calculations as what output u need and what rating of capacitors and resistors are required, and u r good to go..

its not that much easy, but if done will not be heavy on ur pocket also.

Well yes there is a 8cell powered battery I created at home, It gives me 3 hours of modem functionality on full charge and in total cost me 600rs for the battery along with the charger. It powers my Worldcall Webstar modem easily and I find no reason why it wont power up any of the PTCL modems on offer. Its been more than 4 months since I started using it and till this day it runs perfectly fine. I would have been glad to post a pic of the solution I'm using if I was in Karachi, even would have built it for the ones in need of it. Rest assured once I'm back on the 14th I'll share the details and the process in case some of you are interested.

there is a hint for you, if you don't want to get into hassle of circuit designing just buy an emergency light from a pathan, these emergency lights contains a small circuit to convert AC to DC and store in connected AAA size batteries. you can later change batteries or increase number of batteries depending on your requirement

man as ur Router need just 12v DC to operate so u don't need to buy expensive UPS, u can run it on a 12V battery, if u know about electronics then u can made it urself, just a piece of cake

a homemade ups would be nice and cheap, but you can also get a mini apc ups which is made for modems
