It all depends, how much you love your car and what level of convenience are you willing to undertake and whether you like to go by the book. The cost of all these is higher than a roadside mechanic who first gives you a list of things to buy then does your maintenance with sub-par equipment.
In my experience, if you are a person who takes care of their car, strictly follows the book and wants convenience through a one window maintenance operation, you will undertake 3S maintenance even beyond warranty period and you will recover every penny invested in your car. For the last three suzukis that I owned and subsequently sold, I got a premium price and buyer who wanted a written history of maintenance down to every receipt.
As opposed I have seen some people invest in procuring parts and then hunting for a cheap experienced mechanic, whom they trust. More often mechanics have a propensity to open up more unnecessary work than required or make illogical Diagnostics, which can be avoided if you stick to the book.
