I was in a similar boat as yours a few months ago. Wanted a commercial 1 ton pickup for loading purposes. I saw Suzuki Ravi, Faw Carrier, JW Forland and Changan M8 and M9. Did some research and test drove these vehicles and finally bought Changan M8. The vehicle is driven almost 3000km so far and doing good. No faults reported as such till now.
As for ride and build quality. Suzuki Ravi is the worst, very poorly assembled, has the least amount of cabin space and smallest bed(6.5' by 4'), no door rubbers either so when there is heavy rain you will notice water coming inside the cabin.
I found FAW Carrier to be very poorly assembled too, also it is notorious for lack of parts availability by the company and poor warranty service. The only good thing I found about Faw is that it's bed is as equally large as Changan M9 and nothing else. Would not recommend it either.
JW Forland was nice in my experience, it is a 1.8L Diesel but the power is similar to 1.0L petrol and makes lots of noise. It has a roof door that can be opened up for fresh air like you see in military tanks. The bed size is as big as Changan M9 too. However, it is not as widely available as other trucks and not much is known about the company.
Among all of these, I would go with Changan M9 if I need the bigger bed i.e. 9 by 5.5 feet, otherwise, Changan M8 is good enough. It costs almost 1 lac less, has the same engine as M9, and is available for ready delivery at most dealerships. Only the bed is slightly smaller(8 by 4.5 feet). If you sit in Suzuki Ravi and Changan M9 one after the other, you will be amazed to see the difference between the two. M9 has a much roomier cabin, better overall build, bigger bed, much more modern exterior and interior shape, and more powerful engine too. Also, Ravi's bed only opens from the rear, whereas all these other Chinese vehicles have bed that opens from all three sides.
I would say go down to the showroom and check out all these trucks.
