Best Engine for a SUV?

Hi Pakwheelers

I'm a getting a Pajero in a decent price that is 89 Model Manual with a 2.4 Diesel Engine.

The only thing bothering me is the diesel engine. As my daily running is 46 kms on highway and I'm a student so what would be the best engine for it? Keeping in mind its 5 door jeep, should be good for off-roading and long routes too.

I suppose anything above 10km would be good on petrol...? :S

And please do state the rough price of the engine and cc.

You can try looking for the Mitsubishi 6G72 engine, it's a 3.0l V6, production started in the late 80's and if I'm not wrong it's still in production with the Mitsubishi Challenger, it's a good engine and will be a really good option for your Pajero

I wouldn't recommend swapping in a Toyota engine in a 1st Gen Pajero.

Mitsubishi 4D and 6G are the best for this car

Thats not entirely true but revs arent really important while driving an SUV, its the midrange toqrque that you need to get it running

From what I've heard, the engines I mentioned will give you around 7-8km/l, but that also depends upon the condition of the engine and your driving style.

My friend had a 1996 Pajero Exceed V6 and it was absolutely great! You can contact Mr.Hanif Bhatti aka LIBRA, he has a lot of info as he's maintained his "Becharo" very well

i have seen a 90's jerro with a toyota 1jz-ge engine straight 6 plus it had 2 CNG tanks
and one a long time back i saw a 2 door jerro with 3s-fe toyota with CNg
if milage is concern toyota engines +CNG

Just get the original engine built right and you'll be fine. So sick of "Toyota swaps" in EVERYTHING!!!!!

I had a really bad experience with CNG on Pajero Mini so I won't be installing CNG on any of my vehicle now especially Jeeps.
It looks odd and don't see any good future of CNG in Pakistan
Diesel is a curse but I'll try finding any 3.0L V6 engine in market.

Diesel has a higher calorific value i.e. gives more power and milage. I have heard ppl experiencing maintenance issues with diesel engines, but i think if the engine is well kept and good care is taken than there are no issues. For a engine of the same volume petrol will definitely cost u more, and if u go for CNG than u dont deserve to have a 4x4 vehicle.
