The following oils can be used in 1KR-FE engine:

1) 0W20 ( Not preferred to be used in Pakistan)
2) 5W30 ( Best for all seasons)
3) 5W40 ( Can used on engine with high mileage).

Never use the following in 1KR-FE engine:

1) 10W40
2) 20W50

The following can be used if non of the above recommended engine oils are available:

1) 10W30

why 0w20 is not preferred to be used in Pakistan?

This is specifically for a vehicle manufactured in Japan which we know as JDM, manufactured specifically for that (Japan) market.
Now Japan market means for the people living there, which means specially designed for the weather in Japan. Accordingly, the vehicle cooling system and lubricating oil systems are designed and engine oil recommended for that matter.
Since the weather conditions are different here in Pakistan (more towards higher temperatures than Japan), the proper oil recommendation has to be RE-ESTABLISHED for this engine (1krfe) in Pakistan.
The manufacturer recommends 0W20 and also 5W30 for Japan market; with 0W20 for better fuel consumption. So considering high temperatures here in Pakistan (than Japan), 5W30 is a better selection in the long run considering wear and tear of engine.

Second Justification:
The viscosity of 0W20 oil is around 8.5 CST at 100 degree centigrade as compared to 5W30 oil for the same temperature which is around/above 10cst.
It is believed that the viscosity at or above 10 CST is minimum to be maintained for the oil at 100 degrees celcius to keep itself clinging between the frictional matting surfaces for good lubrication.

I have used 0W20 only once and after 3k mileage, it looks like I made mistake by changing grade since it cost me coil (and don't know what else). I had to refill with 0.8 litre of Kixx 0W20 at 2.7k mileage of oil (coil burnt after that). Going to flush today and pour in 5W30. Any recommendations what brand to use? Earlier I was using Zic (but they don't have 5W30). I think Caltex also doesn't have 5W30 grade.

Its about Engine Flush article mentioned above. Here is what the article says:
"However, in old engines with high miles, sludge may be the only barrier keeping oil from seeping through worn or cracked seals. Removing the sludge exposes the seals for what they really are – junk. Soon, your engine begins leaking oil, and you’re mind instantly associates the engine flush product with an oil leak.

In reality, the seals were already bad; the flush simply revealed their true condition."

My question is, should I really go for the flush now since pouring in thicker grade after flush may also start reducing because of exposed bad seals...?

Go with full synthetic with SN grade.

Should be 5W30, SN grade. Should have API certification (donut) or ILSAC GF-5 certification. Any brand fulfilling above is acceptable.

As I suggested, only LIQUIMOLY to be used for engine flush. I thinks its 10 minutes of idling with the flush content prior to oil change.

Time is important, do not exceed the recommended time as mentioned on Liquimoly Engine Flush Container. Also, do not repeat before 40,000 KM.

No issues with seals.

You are right. The mechanic said "coil burning is not due to oil. It might have burnt by the moisture retained after the engine was washed during service. Oil could burn spark plug but not the coil." I'm not sure of the mechanic was right in his opinion or not.

I have just returned from mechanic. Following work is done:
1. Engine flush with STP engine flush (made in UK)
2. Changed oil to Totoal 5W30 (API-SN, ILSAC GF5)
3. Change all three plugs
4. CAT cleaned
5. Cleaning of throttle body

PS: Oil shop guy was suggesting to pour a chemical in fuel tank which will automatically clean CAT. I didn't do it, though

1) Should have used Liquimoly. Not sure on this STP stuff. Made in UK does not matter.
2) Throttle body cleaning not required. Proper working of MAP or MAF was to be checked and addressed. Cleaning etc.
3) Oil is OK.
4) Now you need to check 02 sensors and short term fuel trim graph. Should be close to zero. Up to 5 +/- is acceptable.

Never wash your engine. Just blow off dust using air blower is enough.

My passo 2012 is also reducing same quantity of oil. Oddo reading is 103400

You can look for 5w-30, provided engine health is good, there is no visible smoke from the exhaust, compression is excellent. In 5w-30, Total Quartz 9000 Future series is best value for money!

(It might also be possible that odometer of your vehicle is reversed, and car might have driven much more than 103400 Kms)

Its check engine light for cat converter (bank 1 efficiency below threshold) frequently turns on which I turn off using my obd scanner.

I think, this is just a Jugaar and not a permanent solution. There must be something wrong, that's why the malfunction light is appearing now and then.

For issues which you have mentioned, I would suggest to visit some good garage in your city. Have you vehicle thoroughly diagnosed for any / all issues; via OBD Scan Tool for error codes (if any, etc.) and also other things, coils, electrical load, plugs, etc. Take remedial actions accordingly.

I tend to disagree! Its absolutely safe to use it in 1KR-FE and must be the first choice for this engine, provided: Engine health is 100%!

And it can be used in Pakistan throughout the year; irrespective in Skardu or Sibbi!

(This issue has been discussed here many times. I will not get in to the debate)

Coupled with weak engine health. If engine health is great, then one can continue using recommended engine oil grade(s); 0w-20, 5w-20 or 5w-30, even if odo has clocked 2-3 lac Kms.

Total Quartz 9000 Future Series 5w-30 only! Its best value for money!

Or you can use fully synthetic engine oil from any other reputed brand, meeting latest API SN / SN plus, and / or ILSAC GF-5 criteria. Also ensure that engine oil is 100% genuine and original.

Other options to consider in absence of Total Quartz: Kixx, ENEOS Sustina, Totachi, PSO, etc.

Brother it depends and varies from case to case. Its recommended, but optional, and not compulsory!

In your case, as things are quite different, and if you are doubtful that your seals are worn out and they may start leaking, I would suggest to avoid engine flush and just go for simple engine oil + oil filter change.
