it shouldnt reduce this much oil..and in passo manual they hv written 3.1L oil with oil filter..i am using 0w-20 caltex havoline...n there is no issue of reducing oil yet...i pour 3.1L with oil filter

Well... Now that's something very confusing for me that engine health is good, there is no smoke, you are buying oil from Caltex own shops, and still engine oil reduction problem is there.

As other brother has said that he is using Caltex 0w-20 and there ain't any oil reduction issues, I think the problem is either with your car's engine, or the shop.

0w-20 Vs 5w-40, engine oil consumption should obviously be more for 0w-20 for the same engine.

And as other fellow member has again rightly said, measure the engine oil quantity precisely, and as mentioned in the manual. If you overfill, or under fill, in both cases it can be dangerous for car's engine.

Well... As you are saying that engine health is good, I would say to go for 5w-30 first. I am hopeful it will suit well. IN SHA ALLAH. If it does not suit, then you may go for 10w-30, and in 10w-30, Caltex Havoline 10w-30 is best for bucks. It is mineral based oil and obviously drain interval will not be 5,000 Kms IMO, but it meets all latest criteria.

I think NO! Its not OK! You are overfilling IMO. If I can recall correctly, the quantity of engine oil reqd. with oil filter change is 3.1L, but let me confirm.

OK. Here are the pages from the latest owners / users manual applicable to your model year, i.e. 2013. Its from Toyota Passo, but I think, the same will be applicable to Daihatsu Boon too, provided, both are made in same year:

I did not know it and am surprised to see that they have removed 10w-30 from the list! It was available in the owners / users manuals from previous editions for the same model years, and API rating was also old, i.e. API SM instead of API SN / SN Plus, etc.

For 1000 cc variant, the quantity of engine oil reqd. without filter change and with filter change is 2.9L and 3.1L respectively.

For 1300 cc variant, the quantity of engine oil reqd. without filter change and with filter change is 3.2L and 3.4L respectively.

My passo 2012 is also reducing same quantity of oil. Oddo reading is 103400, oil using is Zic 0w20, earlier used Zic 5w20 but that also reduced. Car is running heavy and takes heavy foot to move forward. Its check engine light for cat converter (bank 1 efficiency below threshold) frequently turns on which I turn off using my obd scanner. Last month, after travelling 300 km in mild hilly areas, its spark plug coil burnt. Please suggest what parts to check for, specifically, before randomly opening this n that.

At around 87k mileage, year back, the mechanic cleaned the cat converter with mild acid ( I guess sulfuric acid). After that, I changed both sensors. But now it's been long time since I got the converter opened n checked.

Do following with regards to issue encountered on ignition coil:
1) Get all remaining coils tested
2) Replace all spark plugs
3) Carryout Comprehensive testing by professional OBD2 scanner for proper functioning of vehicle and especially of ECU.

For engine oil reduction, do the following,
1) Carry out engine flush using liquimoly engine flush only. Follow instructions on flush container.
2) Replace engine oil with viscosity 5W30.
3) Replace PCV valve.

For engine performance, do the following:
1) Replace air filter
2) Carry out ultrasonic cleaning of fuel injectors.
3) Clean MAP sensor.
4) Get O2 sensor tested for performance; replace if not up to mark.
5) Get short term fuel trims analysed.
6) Replace CAT if clogged.
7) Use high octane petrol.
8) Get battery load test done and replace if required.
9) Carry out Weel Alignment.

with significant oil loss in both grades and a plug going bad,

before you waste the money for all such steps visit a workshop ask for compression test WET & DRY , if the difference of values is over 20% the piston rings are coming to end of life and you may need to rebuild the engine.

Capsat, some modern vehicles are purposely designed to reduce drag forces on piston for better fuel consumption, with engine oil consumption being part of the package.

So, minor to moderate oil consumption is fine and one does not need to worry.

1KR FE is by no means a performance plant

it is notorious for oil consumption if any oil other then 0W-30 is used.

The following oils can be used in 1KR-FE engine:

1) 0W20 ( Not preferred to be used in Pakistan)
2) 5W30 ( Best for all seasons)
3) 5W40 ( Can used on engine with high mileage).

Never use the following in 1KR-FE engine:

1) 10W40
2) 20W50

The following can be used if non of the above recommended engine oils are available:

1) 10W30
