Best Engine Oil for Lancer 2005

Hi All, what is the best engine oil for 2005 Lancer 1.3? Car is driven 145,000 Km.

I also want to know what engine oil (brand, viscosity, temp range) are other owners using.

I also have a Mitsubishi try 10-40 in summer and 5-30 in winter. Brands depends on pocket. I personally like good old classic caltex.

I'm using the grade 5W40 in my 1.3 GLX since Day 1, 12.5 years to date, 130,000 km. I've switched brands in all this time, the longest this car ran was on Havoline initially and now since some years I am using Liqui Moly 5W40, Alhamdulillah the car drives flawless with no oil reduction whatsoever.

If you’re on a budget then go for Shell Helix Ultra fully synthetic oil 5W-40. Will last 5,000km.

How often do you change oil and what is your car's mileage?

Mine’s driven 134,000km. I change it every 5,000km but planning to increase the interval to 7,500km or 10,000km. In the last two oil changes the oil has been good at 5,000km. I’ll try 7,500km first and if it’s still good then increase to 10,000km.

Or 1 year whichever is earlier. Since Jan the car has been driven only 4,000km.

Go for 5W-40 grade or 0W-40. The upper 30 viscosity as per the owner’s manual is for temperature of 40 degrees whereas 40 viscosity is till 50 degrees.

I used to pour Total Quartz 9000 5W30 and then also LM Synthoil Hi Tech 5W40, both were nice. But now its been a while since i sold my last Lancer.

I'm planning on buying lancer 2005.. But I'm a bit confused as this is my first car ever.. Is it a good bargain? And are parts available easily?

Only a good bargain if you get a well kept one. Otherwise, you'll keep running after mechanics who will have no clue what to do.

And what about parts? They say they aren't easy to come by and are expensive too

You can get them locally but mostly aftermarket parts. Genuine parts irregularly available from dealerships at high rates. However, if you can spend some time planning your maintenance you can import genuine stuff cheaply from UAE and keep a small inventory at home such as air filter, cabin filter, oil filter, plugs, transmission oil, etc.

In this economy you only have one chance at a car. Whatever you buy you’ll have to keep for many years.

All you’ll require for this is some discipline......nothing else. Importers, local vendors, friends/relatives in Middle East all are there.
