What if I first try ZIC 5W-40 instead of 10W-40?

hi basit bro. i bought corolla in July and till now i have driven 2000 km in 6 month's lol. now will switched to 10w40 oil using 2050. shall i switch to 10w40 zic fully synthetic or normal 10w40 havoline? note i have replaced complete vvti gear timing chain of my 2nzfe

About month back I have replace my Vitz 2012 model head assembly 1KrFe because of oil consumption problem until now I drive about 1100km with 5w30 liqui moly tecAA. All I want to know as I have no idea about engine mileage so shall I keep using 5w30 in coming summer or 10w30 is a good option to consider. Just for sake of information. Until now no oil drop as I drive on high speed too like touches 140km/h for so many times as previous engine reduce oil level instantly after driving in high speed.

If you are currently using 20w-50, and its working absolutely fine, I suggest continue using it and not switch.

Still, if wanna take risk, then you can try 10w-40. If its suits, good, else if, you can always switch to 20w-50 from next oil change.

If I have to choose, I would always prefer fully synthetic over mineral, but will consider brand too.

Caltex / Havoline and ZIC; both are good brands (Caltex is superior to ZIC IMO, but ZIC is not that bad either), but the issue is, Caltex does not offer 10w-40 fully synthetic here; its only ZIC which offers it.

If Caltex would have been offering it, it would have been my prior choice.

IMO, you may continue using it in summers and winters both. No harm in using it in summers, however, from next oil change, prefer to go for Fully Synthetic 5w-30 by Total, Shell, Caltex / Havoline, KIXX, or even PSO.

These fancy, expensive, imported oils may be avoided, and local, value to money reputed brands may be preferred.

What should be done if the mobil oil has reduced by half its levels on the oil guage, if 1krfe is switched to a thinner oil i.e from 10w40 to 10w30, being driven 3850kms and next oil change due at 5000kms.
Previous to 10w40, car was on 20w50, sustained 10w40 quite well, therefore thought of switching to a more thinner grade on your advise dear, hence went for havoline 10w30. After 2500kms, car has slightly started to eat oil and currently at 3800kms, levels of oil on the guage are on the mid point of the highest and lowest points. Whats your suggestion? Top up? If yes how much should be added?

Agree with you, I read it too on Toyota Vitz manual, recommended oil is 5w-30 Synthetic.

Suggestion for Questioner is: always ask for engine oil grade by mentioning you Car Version with full detail, like : Toyota Vitz/Yaris, 1.0Lnearly about 1000cc (technical name: xp-90), second generation.

Ur engine doesn't seem to be in a good condition for 10w30.I would suggest to change engine oil right now rather than top up.And use 10w40 from a good brand like Shell,kixx,Caltex,Zic.Also replace oil filter(use leppon one.)And ensure oil is original not fake.

half a litre would suffice and switch to a reasonable 10-40 like shell next oil change. If your oil is getting dirtier quicker, then its better to change earlier as well..

Shift on 10w30 and keep changing it till 2500kms and you are good to go until you have plans to fix the issue by replacing ir rebuilding the engine

Already on 10,30 now, switched from 10,40 to 10,30 and observed the following oil level after driving it for 3800kms, and oil change due at 5000kms.sharing the pic as an example of my current oil level. Can someone tell me how much of oil reduction is this? And what next step to be adopted?

Just top it up.

Buy a 4L can and that would help. I.e. remaining 1 liter can be used for this purpose of topping up when it goes half on the dipstick. First try pouring 300-500ml, see what level it shows then.

Also, measure oil the same way, at the same ground level (prefer same spot) each time to get consistent readings. Car should be cool.

i think you should change the oil at maximum 4000km if you are using local oil brands, which brand are you using? how much is your local or long drive? why do you change your oil at 5000km?

for a daily ride and people keen keep track of maintenance 5000-6000 km oil change interval is recommended.

so far from this forum we have learned that JDM 660 / 1000 / 1500 / 1800 engines 5W-30 is an all season engine oil. why ? because that is recommended oil grade white STICKER pasted under the bonnet. Irrespective of any GEM / EURO / US model owner manual,. JDM owners' shall follow that maintenance sticker.

For Hybrids that classification is 0W-20 only

Approx 400ml is reduced keep using the 10w30 and change it at 3000kms max in summers and donot top it up. I repeat donot top it up keep using the same viscosity lube and just change it till 3000kms that it your engine will survive for next 5 years inshaAllah
